What forged pistons

Post by hollandgalant »

I want to put forged pistons in my starion 4g63 SOHC. I have a RPW stage 2 cam. Does anyone knows what pistons can be used to behold the valve clearance? I was thinking about the wiseco 9.0:1

SOHC motors are not interferance so if you break a cam belt nothing hits and gets bent so your choice of pistons will be fine :)
If the same thing happens in a DOHC $$$$$ :( :crying
I've had mine since 03 07 92
85 JB 2323cc DOHC 4G63

wiseco's make a shitload of noise. Rattle like bastards.

Good piston tho.

Can you get a cam so massive that it makes it interferance??

When i got that head off you rad i remember i couldn't put it flat as a few valves were below the bottom of the head...

OT: i used CP's.
Pigma - Nana spec GH sigma, 4g63t forged stroker, VR4 head, GT3582r...

BUT Did the valves line up with the flycuts in the pistons ??????

No would be the answer to that unless you get custom.

But is it still non interferance when you use pistons with a comp ratio of 9,0:1 and a stage 2 cam?

My understanding has been that using dohc pistons in the sohc will make it an interference engine.

a forum member down south tried that out and they're still not interference ;)
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

I stand corrected then, good to hear though.

Good piston tho.
So it's the brand of the piston and not the tolerance that made the noise?

Wow.

Two of us in Melbourne (same suburb too, amazing!) have used VR4 style pistons and yes this is correct. Also drops the comp ratio a bit :)
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

I used DOHC 9.0:1 CP's and a massive cam. Still no interferance. :)

Wow.
It's more to do with the quality of the alloy and the heat properties of it rather than the tolerances.

If the piston shrinks or expands more than another BRAND's alloy then yes, it will make less or more noise.

Metallurgy is a fun subject! So is thermodynamics :/
