Good idea or Bad idea?
The rego (NSW) on my vr4 is expired now. There are too many mods done to it so I don't want to engineer it again for this state. Should I rail it over and put the running gear from it into my starion?

Actually yes they did make a factory 4WD Starion but Australia never got it and I'm not sure if it was an east/west or north/south but I was thinking of ust using the engine and what ever else I could. I'll do some research and find out.MrBishi wrote:Fast household appliance on wheels vs fast 80's throwback on wheels.
I don't really know what you mean by 'drivetrain' though. You don't have visions of a 4WD starion do you?

Ok I got this info off good ol' Wiki

We all know about the 4WD starions. I've seen one in the flesh. They are north-south orientation and has nothing in common drivetrain-wise with the VR4.
You realise that bolting in the VR4 motor will mean;
-Changing the starion gearbox or running an adapter plate
-Changing the VR4 accessory positions (A/C, P/S, alt etc)
-Altering the water outlet
-New exhaust dump pipe & I/C pipes.
-Modify inlet manifold t/b position
-Probably new exhaust manifold (depending on if you have a custom one in the VR4 that by some miracle fits in the Starion engine bay)
-11ty billion little things.
Now think about the stuff that may need upgrading on the starion to suit more powers. LSD, good brakes, suspension etc.
Go for gold!

I'ld say just keep the VR-4 intact and go find a dud VR-4 engine to rob the DOHC parts from. No need to dismantle a perfectly good VR-4 just for the engine - as that's about all you'ld be able to use it from. I guess at least in Australia VR-4 parts would sell quite quickly.

should easily get enough for a good VR4 to do a 1J conversion yourself...
