Does anyone have a spare large diff housing sitting around?
Does anyone have a spare large diff housing sitting around?
I'm wanting to borrow someone's spare large diff housing (4 bolt) in order to test some LSD centres to see if they fit or not (or how much work it would take to make them fit).
There has to be a better way of getting an LSD than just relying on factory Starion LSD's and I'm determined to find it.
I have someone that will lend me some early EVO LSD centres for starters, so now I just need the housing. I already have the smaller housing (180mm ring gear), but need the bigger one.
If anyone can help, I may just share my secrets...!

If you can find a 4WD L300 or Delica with factory LSD in the rear, the LSD centre will fit into a Starion big diff crownwheel. Unsure if it'll take the 25 spline 4 bolt axles or the 28 spline 6 bolt axles - am thinking the latter.

I had a large diff housing in the shed for years after I replaced my open JD diff with a LSD from the US.
Since then, I bought a LSD centre from Airbats and a torque tube from ebay and sold the package for around $800.
Due to the fact that there's only around 50 odd large diffs available in Oz, this may be futile exercise as the housing
would need to brought over from the US. Around $250 in shipping costs! However, I'm all for it.... for improvements and
alternatives, just that it will be pricey every way you turn.
I believe Airbats.. has still this housing in his possession and would probably sell it for peanuts, but the shipping is the thing.
I strongly recommend hunting down a 86/87 LSD with torque tube from the States and having it rebuilt. A LSD from a
low km's auto would probably have the least wear and would just be a straight bolt on.
Sould set you back $1000 for the diff/shipping. $500 for rebuild! That's what it cost me!
Anyways, good luck! :beer

Well, it turns out that I've got one (a large diff housing) right here - my car has been in a workshop for months, so I was just guessing that it had a small diff, but I got it back a few days ago and it actually has a large one!! That's pretty handy cos I have a small diff housing here (spare) and a large diff (with LSD) in the car.
Now, I just need to get my hands on an EVO LSD centre (as in the pics above) and see if it fits.
Does anyone know the spline count on the EVO LSD?

Progress, yes, but still far from an outcome.
I've sourced an EVO 1/2/3 LSD to trial-fit, but it'll have to wait until after the next IPRANSW round at Wakefield on 12/13 Sep. Once I'm done there, my existing large diff will be coming out for the trial-fit.
I'll be posting on here with updates as they happen.
