Hey all, i'm new here so thought this would be a good way to introduce.
I purchased my Starion about 7 months ago, and have since enjoyed every moment of it. The pics were taken straight after the purchase. Since then she has gone through some repairs and upgrades
She is currenlty at the work shop getting a set of custom high flow extractors made up. She is running an 8 valve head at the mo, but I have recently purchased a 12 valve sirius dash head and type b injection. All I need now is the ECU.

hey mate where in New Zealand are ya.... before you do your conversion pm BoNeS NZ
87 GSR-V, Factory DASH, Rebuilt bottom end with arp rod bolts and balance shafts removed, head reconed with 3 angle valve grind, TD05 housing machined out to take Garrett T4 internals, rebuilt and cryoed gearbox

Interesting rear spoiler and side skirts you have on it.

Also you might find that when converting to the dash head that there are some differences. Firstly the ecu controls the ignition so you will need the dash dizzy too, as well as the loom. Also I belive the injection in the dash is sequential instead of the batch fire of earlier starions. Some things to consider as you might find its easier to run stock ecu.

Welcome to the forums always nice to see a few more kiwis on here :)
Converting to DASH mite be more hassle than its worth - if you want to go to that effort mite as well consider going the twincam route like a few of us on here are doing at the moment.

RiceThief - Thanks Ricethief for your tips, I'm glad I joined up. I see there is much to learn.
Lunacy - Cheers, however tempting it sounds, I have already got my hands on some Dash head and injection. I would'nt mind getting my hands on another starion though and going in your direction too.
And thankyou all for your support.
I like the the sideskirts, but not so much the spoiler. Infact I have purchased a 3 peice spoiler just like Ricethiefs. I also have a front lip from JAS (jp_prescott). It all takes time and relatively deep pockets or empty beer fridge.
Those pics were taken on my cell, so i'll post some more pics in due course to show progress

Yeah im in ChCh,
its always good to find more people interested in starions... i know all about the needing deep pockets hahaha.
there are a few more things you need to do your conversion like pistons

You can use the 2 valve pistons just in the same way as you can use 4 valve pistons on a 2 valve head. Will make it an interference engine and may limit the amount of lift and duration you can run.

so the stock standard 8v starion engines are NOT interferance engines?

Thanks guys I'm getting some pretty valuable info.
So basically I need to source the right pistons, otherwise I could run into some serious issues if timing belt goes caput??
If anyone can impart with somemore advice on my Dash conversion project, that would be awesome.

From what I understand if you dont have the right pistons they will hit the 3rd valve

Im pretty certain that you dont need dash pistons as the 3rd valve wont hit the piston with the 2 valve piston. Wantsom need will to confirm this but I am certain that the bottom end on his dash engine have the 8v pistons as that bottom end was from Nxtime's car before he sold it to Wantsom.

Dash what are you plans ultimately with your car as this will really dictate the best direction to go. The dash head has the problem with not much support, in terms of parts and knowledge about them, as there weren't that many around. Also converting it to mpi is also expensive as there's nothing off the shelf.

However the easiest way to convert to the dash head seems to be running the dash manifold with either the type a or type b injection (using the 8v ecu) and disconnecting the seleniod to keep all inlet valves running all the time, Abalistic on the forums did it this way with success.

My car was imported privately from Japan in 1987 and as I've been told the conquest badge is genuine.
It has had two previous owners. The first owner was a mechanic and the second owner was a friend of the mechanic.

Thanks for all your info regarding the valves - I'll look further into it.
I have a cyclone intake manifold of a 1989 VR4 lying around - thought about it but decided not to go in that direction...
So I think i'll stick with the type b.
Part of the reason I bought the car, was because of it's 80's appeal.
I don't mind the faded burgundy interior, digital dash or it's straight transformer like lines. The same goes with the engine. I want to keep it reasonably original, but make the most out of it.
