Engine Numbers

Post by thrash »

I called up the RTA today to find out if the engine in my car was replaced during it's lifetime, and the lady said to me that they cannot release that information, and that unless i was the owner of the car at the time the engine was changed, i can't find out.......

what kinda crap is that? I woulda thought I have a right to know the history of a car I own. I wasn't asking for a previous engine number, just whether or not it was replaced previously. I don't see how they can't be willing to release that information. It's a simple yes/no freakin answer.

Is there a way to find this information out? I don't see how this would go against privacy laws or anything like that.

don't try explaining that to her tho..... just leave. lol

Never change your engine without re-stamping the new engine with the old engine number. Why the hell would you jump through their stupid hoops ?....name and address withheld. I once put an engine in a car that was an imported engine ( i didnt know the difference ) the guy doing the blue slip nearly hit the roof. started saying i had to take it to an engineer and have all sorts of pollution tests done on it etc etc. It would have failed due to the aftermarket ECU etc etc. Lucky for me he was super nice and allowed me to stamp a 4 in front of the "G63" engine designation. I learnt my lesson very quickly that day.

Wow... they don't record the engine number here...

Swap as you wish!! "As long as the engine is the same year of the car or newer." But... they never know.
