Hey all,

For sydney people, does anyone know this company? Apparently they do motor rebuilds and such and i noticed the name and i was like :o

anyone know if they are staz specialists as they are just in the next suburub over so im realli interested :)

Yes they used to prepare Group E cars back in the late 1980's. Mainly do pure race stuff not a workshop open to the public (ie. they just do their own stuff). Doing some formula car stuff at the moment I think. Used to do Super Touring as well.

I know the owner Paul Grimm pretty well. When I was a teenager I worked at a Servo where the owner, Ray Kaleda, was the owner and raced Chargers and Toranas. Paul was his race mechanic and was looking after the preparation of the cars for Ray and a couple of other guys. Many many stories to tell of "The Grimm One".

[I still remember towing an L34 Torana to Bathurst in an old XA van with the race car, spare motor, gearbox, diff etc etc etc in the back going up Bells Line of Road Hill and Paul callig the van every name under the sun because he had to come back to 1st gear at some points and complaining that it was overheating. If you've ever heard a Lithuan swear it can be quite funny at 4am in the morning. ]

He is a self taught race mechanic, (refrigeration mechanic by trade) and he is one very cluey guy. Has prepared L34/A9X Toranas, as Mark said Group E Starions, Cordia's and Peugeot Super Tourers. He has been around a very long time and ran James Cressey for a few years in F3 here.

He would do a great job but getting him to do it would be the issue. You still see him around the race tracks doing his thing.

well seeing as u know him personally, couldn't u milk him for some advice on how to set up a 300whp street starion motor ?
His recipee should be interesting, especially on cam/springs/head porting/clutch. I would think he grew accustomed to removing bottlenecks.

He would probably say "bring your car and your money to me and I'll see what I can do."

He might also say some other things along the way if he was asked that question.

heheh... sounds like quite a character
but would he tell _you_ that WANTSOM ? ....seems u two go back a ways.
From what is posted, it appears he/they don't cater to/or interested in our type of customer. Neither does he have the time so who would want to carry their car to him to sit.... and wait... and wait... :)
Just thought I'd ask since he is your aquaintance
U.S. guys been pretty sucessful with moded 2.6s... no reason why the same approach wouldn't work equally well on the sohc 2.0L

Flappa, Yeah is that Lithua.... thing. Cand spell for shet.

Quest.. yeah we go back way too long to admit. I actually lost track of Paul for a long while then he reappeared with the Peugeot deal. Apparently he got married and consequently divorced. (BTW - 100% of divorces start with marriage!!)

The thing with him is that he only likes to do what he wants to do. If that means working 1 day a week on a race car then that is what he does. If it means working 24/7 for a week or two on something to get it ready for whatever then he does that.

He is not a commercial workshop and runs his business, as best as I can find out, by looking after racers and preparing their car and looking after it at the meeting for them.

I will catch up with him again soon no doubt and ask the question. Depending on his mood, I'll get an answer of some sort for you!!.

You will find him in the F3 paddock at the Pro Car rounds. Just look for big guy with a 'mo who talks a bit funny.
