yeah...given that the 240 is the dominant drift car around here. i just really want an engine that is going to be pretty reliable, have parts that are easy to come by and can take some punishment. i'm still open to suggestions and this thread is really more of a way for me to research what i would be getting myself into

4G63 or 4G64 twincam my friend. way more reliable than a SR, and more upgrade options and info available over there...
i know so many people with dodgy SR's.. including guys who bought S15's new.

They come in wide & narrow blocks
Wide blocks are in rear wheel drives and the top bolt spacing is 130mm
Narrow blocks are in front & all wheel drives :::::::::::::::::::: 110mm
Bell housings to suit various gearboxes are available in the USA
The bolt spaces are bellhousing to block measurements

simple and cheapiest way to go is:
-buy a narrow block 4G63 front cut or something with loom - preferably evo 1-3 with 2 gen head
-get a bellhousing to adapte to what ever gearbox you want - bill on PZG
-make a custom exhast manifold
-if you get a evo 1-3 with the gen 2 heads just use a evo 8 inlet manifold
your drifting!

alot easier
I'm no SR20 'fan', but there is no guesswork involved setting one up to drift
successfully and reliably. So many S-chasis examples to copy. Looks like a
"natural" to me.
Around here, I've never seen a single 4G63 used for drifting, let alone a starion.
If going the 4G route, do your homework. Choose the correct gearbox for the task.
Add up the costs... the numbers may scare you.
Starion considerably heavier than a S13. How well do they drift (& wear), and what
it costs to modify the suspension for 'drifting' vs what is available ?
May not be the ideal chasis or powertrain
