Hi All
I'm curious to know whereabouts I could pick up a DOHC head from, it dawned on me yesterday I have a compelte SOHC motor under the house, and whilst I'm paying off the Staz, I could slowly build this dohc motor up on the side so it can one day just slot in.
Cheers for any info.
I'm based in Sydney, Inner west.
Have rung pick and payless and a few import places, but they only have whole motors or nothing. :?

in Australia they would be on the HH/HG Galant GSR and VR-4 in big port, or Lancer Evolution 1-3 or Chariot/RVR Turbo (I think it's known as the Nimbus to you lot) in small port. You could use a 4G61 head too which has smaller ports than the big port motor, but it also has smaller valves. If you come across one your side of the ditch, a 4G67 head will do the trick also. I'm sure 4G63 DOHC and 4G67 are found in Hyundais (Sonata, Lantra etc) under their own naming scheme too.
If you have no luck I could source one from here in NZ for you, freight across the 'dutch' would be about NZD$150, but if you look for long enough you'll find a complete 4G63 DOHC N/A or 4G67 head for NZ$200 or less so would make for a relatively cheap head.

Yeah, I found the list of cars it came off, and so far everyone I call has no spare heads.
Had one guy try to pitch me an entire engine for 1K, when I asked if it was turbo, he laughed at me and said 'Good luck finding a turbo motor for that cost"
"Umm, yeah, goodbye"
N00b LOL could find one for $1500 if I look hard enough, and not for very long.
But hmm, only really want a head, funny, I can pick up spare for my Magnas for like $50, can't find anything for the galant or anye of that.

All the 4g61 heads I have seen and measured have the same valve sizes as the 4g63 dohc heads. Note: valve shrouding can be an issue in a 4g61 if the chamber is left factory.
Find a cheap flight to Auckland, go to pick a part (close to the air port), pull head, pay approx $120NZ and take your new head home. you may have a bit of the problem getting through customs however

I found a rebuilt vr4 long motor for $700 on another forum. If you ask me rebuilding your spare sohc motor is a waste of money. You should do some research first, as you have the perfect bottom end in the car your buying for this conversion(it already has vr4 pistons!). Yes buy a head, but just buy a Hyundai one and timing cover, and then save for all the other harder bits.
I'm not trying to be rude, but i hate when people waste money on shit they don't need. Search is your friend

The engine under my house now has vr4 pistons, and balance shafts removed, plan was to clean this engine up and everything, give me something to do in the meantime, that way can still keep driving the sohc without it being off the road for a longer time.
