...you own a Starion

Im a relatively new member

A few weeks ago i bought my first Starion, and put up a post and pics etc

along with other posts asking for help in deciding whether to buy the Starion and what my other choices were

aaaannnyway the last few weeks id been despairing about whether i had made the right decision in buying it as the noise i initially thought was a belt whining was actually the balance shafts making a mssive racket and if not removed soon will take my whole engine.
I have had no one to do it for me or show me how, its extremely slow for some reason, not getting enough spark and fuel is being wasted,kind of jolts a bit slightly when driving and the steering is making a massive whining racket every time i move the steering wheel.
The interior is falling to bits.
I cant park it on my drive because hand brake is too weak to hold it on the small slope, it is due for a wof in a couple of weeks and needed the cut springs replaced and a new tyre and probably lots of other little things like my seatbelt not retracting etc
Just didnt have the doe for all this.

Got a knock on the door today. The fella drove past and noticed my Starion. Says he has one thats been in storage for 6 years and he just hasnt had money or time to go to effort of restoring it and wants to know if i wanna buy it as a spares car for $300 bucks!!!!

This kind of thing only happens with Starions!

do these ones come with the 5 stud wheels with better brakes, a trip comp and cruise control? Havent been able to find out using google.

Sounds like its a EX euro spec car if its 5 stud and has black leather interior and LSD :)
Hubs are different to the 4 stud cars, front brake setup is different too and i think brakes are a bit bigger.
Mite be better to restore that one if its in good condition as its a much better base to start from than a jap spec car.
Unfortunately only the jap cars came with cruise and the trip computer so no it wont have them unfortunately.

Did the bloke say what model Starion it is?
This will go a LONG way to helping identify what should be in it...

No he didnt say what model

He caught me as i was racing out the door. Was totally stunned . Went to have a quick look even though he said he wouldnt be home and was in a big hurry

Forgot to look whether five stud or even manual! Too rushed and couldnt really believe it! Should have got the plate number too so i could do a plate check as that would tell me the exact car, model etc and when it was imported and how long between wofs etc

No wont be restoring this one, its had a right side crash and is rusting and mine one has a perfect body and paint job ..so swap my gay light brown interior, brown dash and cloth seats for all black

take the diff brakes etc ooo list goes on . This makes a big difference to the car situation and my run of badluck

This is why i bought a Starion . Seriously ! This kind of wickedness ONLY EVER happens when you own one

Good story! Yep, numerous people have approached me over the years to buy their cars that are sitting around in garages and backyards slowly rusting & rotting away. Can usually buy them for next to nothing. And it's usually at about the time when you just happen to need a particular part and start thinking about where you'll get one... :D

yeah, the difference between GSR-Vs and wideys is wideys have 6 bolt axles and GSR-Vs are 4... learnt the hard way

bridgey - actually earlier widebodies have 4 bolt axles and later model widies have the 6 bolt axles (around 88 for jap ones and 88/89 for us ones).

had a better look today and YES ,,is the euro spaec EX , manual with the 5 stud wheels , nice dash with the 260km speedo , LSD and the list goes on!


Shouldnt gloat but totally struck gold!! yeeha and for $300 and probably get him down.

Will have my crusty old brown interior in the gsr111 swapped for the black carpet, black dash, 260 speedo although thats difficult, upgrade to 5 spokes with bigger brakes and LSd. Plus will have a spare engine which he says was going fine when it was parked up and derego'ed 6 yrs ago AND a spare much better gearbox!!

anyway few parts already posted up for sale so i can get those balance shafts done and afford the car including the flat bonnet and 5 stud 16 inch wheels which i should keep but will go to 17's or 18's anyway
