Did that one for 25000 actually sell though? I always thought he was a bit of a dreamer.

I paid $7000 for my original and near immaculate '91 VR-4 Evolution, but I got a bit of a bargain. Only two other VR-4 Evo 'Zero's in tidy condition are on trademe, one for $12500 and the other for $16000 - I feel both are asking a bit too much though.

a rough early pre-facelift model could be picked up for as little as $1500-3000 depending on condition. Gearboxes are a bit harder to find now, especially the 3.909 ratio ones the RS and Evolutions have.

he did say 'eg 88 to 92 4g63 turbo etc' so he must be talking about the '87-'92 E38A and E39A Galant VR-4s

Just so you know it will not have evo 1-3 brakes. It will still have twin pots that are identical to the evo, just the brake line fitting is different.
To check if it has a evo 3 exhaust manifold, look for some grinding on one of the sides. I remember a few vr4 guys complaining about having to die grind there new manifolds to fit.
A Exedy 3 puck is just to savage for a street car. It also will break your transfer case, if launching hard in a heavy car like the vr4.
Check and see if the caps in the ecu were changed when the chip was fitted.
Check the ecu codes, and ask the last time the 02 sensor was changed.

Apart from that it seems like it has some good mods.

Just remember that vr4s are getting old now and some things are starting to become hard to find (just like a starion :P )

looks tidy apart from the cut up bumper. Dunno why he had to advertise the car as having facelift spotlamps considering the whole car is the facelift model.
