I AM NOW THE VERY PROUD OWNER OF MY FIRST STARION!!!
WE BONDED!!....we had 900kms and about 11 hours of driving to get her to her new home at my house up NOrth [ n.z ] hehe all while wearing a scarf to keep hair out of my face [ very very eighties!!,,and GAY but i dont give a sh#t and while listening to the likeS of Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, System of a down, Violent Femmes etc ...o yeah very eighties indeedy
More to come when im not so dog tired after the long drive and the rush of being a Starion owner finally. Will let you know [ if interested listening to me blab on ] about what it has, doesnt have, things that work , dont work, advise and parts i need, and plans for it etc
PLUS PICS!!
EDIT...O I would just like to blab on a touch more and add that i bought this car at the risk of my 3 year relationship with my b.f slash 'kind of fiance' and father of my child. He did everything in his power to talk me out of it , even finding me cars with alot more power which he knew id like and pulling many wobblies at me when i gave my reasons for still sticking with an old dated unkown Starion waay down at the end of the country which id only seen pics of on trade me and never seen myself! Lol Was not a fun time !! Even going as far as to say he would NOT be the one to fix it when it breaks down all the time!! He owned a falling apart Starion when i first met him which i think I fell in love with before him, i seriously felt like he was absolutley BETRAYING STARIONS!! My GOD NO! NOt possible??! Couldnt believe it ! Thought he would be wrapped i was buying one.. ....
''..I pulled in his drive for the first time ...he was over it like a 13 yr olds wet dream!!! Knew it! Hehehehe
Sorry baby
I knew this was NOT the RESPONSIBLE choice , i mean it was'nt because for $2,800 i could have bought an extremely cheap to run, newly warranted car, with lower km's, but it was a decision made with my heart and not my head...
...and you know what people? I got a good one, she's very tidy and been well looked after

FANTASTIC Tam !!!! Welcome to the clan............you have crossed over to the dark side, there is no going back now. However the thing I'm most excited about .............. and I quote................
"3 year relationship with my b.f slash 'kind of fiance' and father of my child." you didn't use the "P" word once. Bless you Tam rofl
PICS please !

It sounds like the car itself has gone to a loving caring home to be spoilt....... it is beautiful to read your enthusiasm and passion for the car you have just bought, maybe print your feelings out and refer to them in the future if you ever have 2nd thoughts with the car (although it sounds like it will never happen) :D
Congratulations and happy motoring !!!! :beer

lol yes thats correct world xchange and using ubuntu just updating to 9.04 .....WHAT THE HELL ! LOl
its pissing with rain here so pics will be coming!!!
yes let the mods begine so...
Car is in good nick, both myself and man beleive its a good one but..
interior is falling to bits ..
First thing is the back 'boot struts' WORK!!! It is true
secondly need help diagnosing this noise ..
when your parked up idling and give it a blip on the gas right as its coming back to idle again it makes a 'kind of power steering belt/ whine wirr type noise but uts not power steering or other belts that we can see.
man [ who doesnt have net at his house at mo so make do with my decriptions!] says could be ballen shaft belts [ im remembering so could be different to what he said ]
any ideas?
Thirdly when i start her in the morning i cant just start and take foot off gas and leave her to idle, she'll just die, i have to have foot on gas for awhile and then she'll idle nice and smooth but then...
ill pull away and fist stop i come to in first [ intersection , lights whatever]
she'll stall
once warmed up no problems
for warrant in 2 months time am going to be needing front springs, anyonw? Ideas where to get them etc?
for warrant seat belts need to retract nice and smooth dont they? Main pain with daily driving has been the fact that drivers seat belt jams up . its very hard to pull out, ive been leaving it pulled out and tucking it through arm rest/ handle thing! Lol but need to get it fixed, door card is loose to and missing a few of the bits that go between door and car, rubbers all on though, door doesnt close quite right and leaves a bit of a gap but rubbers just touching so no leaks as yet
centre console is cracked , anyone got another lying around?
it has a great lil stereo and 6x9's but speakers all fuzzy when loud, but that'll be an easy fix.
Small small crack in the righthand tail light, barely noticeable and hoping it will pass
Now the rust, amazing really! A 1983 Starion and only one rust hole between the rubbers that line the boot and the number plate at back, right under the rubbers, you can stick 2 fingers through the hole , um yeah so that guy from whangarei..know any good panelbeaters up here? I hate 'so-called' proffessionals! They have stuffed me round alot so want to go to good panel beater that wont rape me for cash for a tiny little hole! We actually might be able to fix ourselves,
CAR IS RUNNING RICH definatley, how to sort this out?
Although i left Wellington with a chock full tank [ $90 worth and 57 littres ] then got to Auckland and filled up with another $50 whcih was 32 litres , car is not quite on empty yet now im home and has done 850kms on 89 litres , its not the best way to work it out , best to fill tank again but id say thats about a good 10L per 100kms ..while running rich so could have done alot better considering was open road driving
Anyway thats enough for now
Quite like the wheels for now too! They in good nick
Ill wait awhile till i can get some nice 17's or 18's

I've had that problem too, ever since i got my car. Still haven't reesolved it. as a temporary measure, i've had my car set to idle higher.. so it idles at 800 in the cold and when it warms up it'll start idling higher and i have to get my foot under the throttle pedal and pull it up a bit to let the revs drop until back to 800.Tamgesic wrote: Thirdly when i start her in the morning i cant just start and take foot off gas and leave her to idle, she'll just die, i have to have foot on gas for awhile and then she'll idle nice and smooth but then...

to prevent it stalling right after starting it, i've just gotten used to letting the car roll off slowly.. i.e. easy on the throttle, bring it up to 2500 rpm and then ease off the clutch VERY gradually as it starts to move.. change throttle too quickly and she stalls
Redzone recently informed me after looking at some pics, that my car has been running without an idle control motor

Congrats on getting it up north!
If you want a panel beater who won't rape you go on to oldschool.co.nz and search for a member called MACKAZ. He's another Whangareite and always willing to help out people with old cars. Haven't used him personally but he's a GC and by all accounts does good work.
I also gave away two or three pairs of tailights with my starion when I sold it - I can give you the guys number and he might be willing to let you have one if you want.
You can still buy front springs - I got a full set of Dobi springs (low) that a suspension shop in Aucks ordered in for me - took 1 day. Should be able to get someone in Whangas to order them for you.
Any place that does seatbelts should be able to sort out the seatbelt problem - they have a pretty standard mechanism inside which they can just swap out and use the same housing you already have.
Running rich is a starion trait! Gives you that awesome popping and farting whilst decelerating!
Good luck!
