my ex lancer
with a starion box behind a 4g63, in a street widebody on 225/50-16 I'd run 3.9.
Because the lancer is significantly lighter, on a slightly smaller diameter low
profile tire (or drag radial), I'd run at least a 3.5 or a bit taller.
My 1st 2dr 81 corolla swap was a 2.0L SOHC staz motor... roughly same weight as the
lancer. With the stock toyota 3.58 + 195/50-15 although close, it still could use a
bit less gear... and it didn't make the torque nor the rev range of you DOHC.
I installed a 3.3 GM diff in my current 2.6 powered corolla.
May sound odd, but have seen lots of quick street cars low ET running less gear than
the heavier donor car. Like this 10sec example I posted here before.

Took out some gear vs stock 3.55.... now 3.27 + tall rear slick delivers

Lotsa seat time, launch technique, shift point, tire choice, etc.

i really think it is my gbox more than anything, very slow shifting and if i try and slam gears then i either miss or it grinds
over winter im looking at adding roughly 50hp through cams and a bit more boost aswell as raising the rear up so it can squat a little on launch so that would suit a lower diff ratio too?
Never seen anyone speak good of japanese radials for drag use. Only time they're used locally is if 'some slip' is desireable to nurse driveline parts.

Staz gbox an ideal match for lower rev SOHC. A cammed up dohc would only make things worse imo. W58 toyota box proven perfect for the task.
Change too many things at once, you'll loose your way.
I wouldn't touch the suspension unless it obviously was a hinderance. Lots of 10sec street cars run bone stock suspension. 10.3sec nissan linked above runs $100 ebay coilovers.
Ditto adding more power. I'd get the most out of what u have first. This car is already loaded with potential. Just to get an idea (all on stock suspension btw).

My "fast" street car is CA18DET powered rwd KP toyota starlet, near a duplicate of another that has ET 11.1sec, T3/T4 @16psi, again unopened 18yr old motor.
Exceptional displ to wt ratio is why I built it = fast + cheap + reliable

toyo RA-1's are actually really good on the strip. i know a guy who's run 10.7 in a gemini with 225/50/15's in that pattern..
also i was 60 footing my last turbo gemini at 1.8 with advan 032R's. let em down to 15 psi and they were awesome.

i have all of about an inch of suspension travel in the rear, hardly good for squating and finding some traction
also if i raise the rear up slightly i would then be able to fit some et streets, currently there is no clearance for them
i really do think its my gbox hurting me, either that or my driving
guys at the track on sunday in a couple of near stock s13's with nothing more than front mounts, exhausts and chipped computers are doing low 13s almost getting 12s, all doing higher 60fts than me
my gbox isnt even a staz one by the way but an l200 ute(or d50 trans as you yanks call em)
