1jz is 1000% nicer than an rb25, for example.. same capacity, but so much
more sofistication and response
maybe in pure stock form
yeah, those 'twins' r fussy & complex, but in terms of performance I don't see much
difference... based on a few friends who regularly compete amongst themselves.
7.5 soarer is quick, but R33 RB25 avg ~7.3
Quickest being an also internally stock RB25 swapped S13 goes a blistering 6.8
All r 5 speed daily driven. Ever been in a 7.0 1/8th street car ? Fkn frightening
JZ certainly not 1000% better than a RB. No way

Its widely excepted the 1J is a better motor then the RB25 here.

-BFII XR6 Turbo Ute , Here comes 400hp for 2k :p
-77 Mazda 323 drag car. 13bt rotary project.

lol, from soarer vs starion to 1j vs rb25.. and all my fault

both engines are good at making decent power when upgraded. rb25 in an s13 doesn't count - that car is 400 - 500kgs lighter than anything that the 1j or rb25 came out with from factory.

having driven many a skyline and two 1j cars, i can tell you that the 1j feels much smoother, and just nicer to drive..

rb25s are a mixed bag.. perhaps there's not as much quality control with these engines.. i've heard of a lot of rb25s having head gasket issues etc, but seen only a few. on the other side of the spectrum, one of my mates got his first skyline when he was 17, before all the p plate laws banning turbo cars etc. it was an auto gts-t, with very basic mods like a bov, boost controller, turbo timer, and some shitty looking auto gear knob. it had a really puny turbo.. might have been a t25 or a t28 (on a side note, it felt like an NA car cos it spooled up by like 1500rpm.. seriously, why would you put such a puny turbo in a 2500cc??). not knowin what he was doing, he played around with the boost controller cos it had all these fancy buttons lol.. and i remmeber he had set the boost to 26psi. He drove it around at that level of boost on a stock engine for over a year.. until someone told him how much of an idiot he was lol

engine is still running fine today - no gasket issues or anything.

my point is that an rb25 is by no means a weak engine.. but sometimes it's a luck of the draw with them.. whereas the 1j, being toyota, the chance of you getting a badly built engine from factory is MUCH lower methinks

don't try explaining that to her tho..... just leave. lol

bottom line is 1JZ's dont shit themselves anywhere near as regularly as RB25's. and you can screw good boost into a stock 1J, RB stock are more fragile.

u.s. 240sx 4cyl(S13) weighs ~2750 stock. With the heavier RB and hefty gbox probably
brings it to ~2900. Soarer can't be 4000 pounds

only been seeing the RB25 & 1JZ imported ~7 years now, unlike you folks.
Typical scenario; purchase this 'old' virgin used motor from the importers, install,
start modifying.
From observation, they both seem equally reliable except.... there is definitely a
pattern of JZ ecu(some fix with caps) and crank pulley failures. I honestly wish I
had a box of them to sell :)
I'm quite familiar with my friends' cars, and I do believe the "hotter" RBs run
aftermarket metal head gasket tho, whereas JZ comes stock. Exhaust manifold studs
often break when changing RB manifolds too.

What "shit themselves regularly" on the RBs ?
I'm just curious, from where this "superiority" notion originates. Seems waaayyy
exaggerated

Soarer a lot more refined than staz. To me, they look pretty cool when lowered on
the "right" set of wheels... and killer exhaust note, again with the "right" muffler
Can make or break a project imo.

RB25's - oil pump/oiling system problems, pistons cant handle as much as 1J's, rods weaker aswell, head gaskets, probably a few other things i cant remember right now. also the RB20 seems a lot more reliable. they cop a caning before they let go.
