I'm not saying I'm sold on this but was worth a look from 4G61t site in the states

dont know if anyone has come across this much lightening of a crank

Looks interesting. I wonder if those weights serve any other purpose than low down torque?

i reckon it'd help keep the motor spinning like the flywheel does without added weight to the flywheel. so that crank should help the motor get the revs up quicker but lookout if you looking to cruise up a hill.

So the cranks not fully counter weighted?

on gear changes, your revs will drop as quickly as they shoot up when you give it stick.. or quicker perhaps

Despite the minor draw backs of less take off torque and faster deceleration of revs, it seems like it would have quite a few benefits. You could gain from less rotating inertia and less load on the bearings i.e. more torque to accelerate with. The crank would not have the splash resistance produced by the weights hitting the oil either.

Seems like an expensive option though when light weight flywheels are off the shelf.

The crankshaft without counterweights would experience more bending forces as well. But I would give one of those cranks a shot anyway :)

If you read the story on there site these guys circuit race you will find that they already run next to no weight in there flywheels
I know myself I'm a little intersted in removing more weight from my 4g54 crank these loose about 2 - 2.5 Kg with a knife edge . getting rid of some more weight would be good
I've already got the flywheel down to 2.9 Kg and the clutch to 2.3 kg
it now starting to get hard to find places to remove weight from
