looks like an early jap spec GSR-III or GSR-X to me. Not 100% certain to have an LSD but it could be likely.

Did it come on factory wheels? those alloys look horrible!

I considered buying this the last time it was for sale (in Wairarapa). Its a GSR-III i think....Current owner lives around 500m from me - looks pretty tidy.

Well it looks identical to my one. Same colour exterior, same colour interior. Mine is a 83, GSR II. No limited slip unless someone has fitted one.

being digi dash its probably GSR-III or above, but who knows it could have been put in there at some stage.

My GSR-III had the digital dash and front dam but the center console on yours looks like a GSR-II one (ie. no 3 peice system) so it appears to be a mix of both models. Also, is that a radio aerial at the rear? I thought all early flatties had them on the roof?

she is about to go ick it up next week but is getting cold feet..

she asked if i could ask if someone could go have a look and make sure there is nothing mojorly wrong with it, other than the cut springs.

i.e. is steering okay, not blowing smoke, not blown hg, that sort of thing.

maybe even take it for a test drive..

the car is in welington, nz.

Hi Starion addicts

Im Tamgesic, this is my first post on this forum . Thought i better finally get an account of my own now that im yae close to becoming a starion owner for the first time! Lol NOT getting cold feet ! He thinks he has found me a better car for kids and i even though he is a hard out starion lover but between us we no longer own on ..yet [ although used to ] Im not sure i agree although he has really managed to almost persuade me ? So NEED HELP !!......

Crshbndct who put this post up on my behalf is my partner .He was the proud owner of a starion when i first met him and my god did i end up loving that car!!..and the man

I have owned a 4wd turbo mazda gtx for the last year and unfortunately the big end bearings went even though i dont thrash it [ seems the guy that did the rebuild before me must'nt have ground the crank in properly or could have been the fact that a pipe on the vf10 we put on came unblocked so would have been leaking all this boost and just too hot for engine] whatever it was i didnt have the money to get it fixed for the last 3 months and then i saw the starion shown in pics above listed on trade me [ similar in oz to ebay ] and had to get it when i offered the guy 3G and he accepted! was origionally listed with a start price of $4500 ! The $3g iswith factory starion mags and without mags in pic...THANK GOD!!

I am $500 away from owning the starion and my man finds a soarer on trade me he thinks would be the ideal car for me . Has almost talked me into it in terms of reliability? POssibly ..has high kms but mega strong engine.

Here are my choices . Any help would be totally appreciated ...

Fix the mazda ...which means: go pick up the engine ive found which is off someone i know and know its a good one [ $500 plus travel to pick up $100] Unfortunately situation at moment would mean paying someone $1 grand to put it in . Then spend another $600 on stuff needed doing for warrant [ brakes ]

OR

Keep struggling to find the extra $500 i need plus cost of picking it up[ and hope starion seller will wait a couple more weeks for the cash, hes waited 2 already but seems in no hurry and BUy a f#*kin mint looking starion that is going for waay less then they usually go for [ $3000 but which is in WEllington [ a $200 plane flight away then drive back on $200 gas ] which i have never seen or checked out in person

OR

Buy a tired [ scratches and clear coat rubbing off and high kms ] but late model tidy one owner since nz new toyota soarer in line 6 twin turbo with lost of power already available and EVENTUALLY do a manual conversion and its local. A much newer luxious and apparently more reliable car?

Things im into in a car ...

RELIABILITY [ but not at cost of style and handling , i owned a mazda after all ! You know what i mean ..REASONABLY reliable ok?]

HANDLING [ to me the soarer felt too heavy but is way up there when it comes to modern suspension etc and i think i could get used to the heavy feel and from what ive told they handle amazingly ..i test drove for short time in rain so not sssure]and then... From long ago memory the old starion just SPOKE to me and gave me a buzz every time i drove it . Then the mazda has always given me a buzz too. Its nice , quick and light when it comes to handling

STYLE My mazda is bright orange and funky

Soarer seems a tad 'normal' to look at but still a nice looking car and would have the more agressive look i like with a nice body kit

Starion has a mint paint job but no body kit and ive always found them a tad sleazy to look at [ dont kill me please! ]but for the driving pleaseure i would happily drive round in one and it definately does NOT lack style !!

Im in a conundrum so thanks for reading this essay from a brand new member who hasnt been on many forums so please be 'nice' ? Plus im half ozzie! so thats gotta count towards something

Last but definatly not least ..If anyone lives in or close to wellington n.z and knows his/her cars and would be happy to take half an hour out of their time and go check out the starion before i buy it , you know for rust, give the engine a geez over , brakes, clutch gearbox , you know things you would check if you were buying car ? Then that would be amazing because i just cant afford an aa check but before spending $400 on picking it up , i need to know its everything it says it is in the auction and when/if i get down to wellington to pick it up id happily take you for a drive and shout you a box as a sign of my appreciation . ANYONE?

Cheers

the one thing i dont like about soarers is that they're.. well bland...

how many k's on this soarer? they tend to shit turbo's and cause massive carbon build up behind the valves when they get up in the k's.

Its done 240,000 kms compared to 170,000 in the starion but the turbos were reconditioned about 80,000 kms away and cambelts etc all done at 208,000 kms ? One owner for last fifteen years , going at a good price for $2200 [ talked him down from 2500 ] my man thinks i should get it , im wondering if i should?..and loose out on starion? All of me wants the starion but if its as fast and reliable and good handing as he says it is then it IS alot newer and could be less hassle considering i no longer have cash to be throwing into my car?
