Roll cage installation

Hi, I've purchased a full CAMS approved roll cage kit (new, second-hand) but no installation details. Do most people fit the main roll-over hoop to the box section that goes across the car under the front edge of the back seat, or to some plates attached to the floor behind the front seats. Any photos would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try and help but first:
- do you know the manufacturer? If yes, they'll be the best to ask.
- did the previous owner give you any hints?
- is it a kit specifically for a Starion?
- is it bolt-in or weld?

I know some of these may be dumb/obvious but the more information you give us the more we may be able to assist.

When I made enquiries about my CAMS/FIA approved cage, nobody had a main hoop for a Starion, let alone a full kit, so mine was a ground up build. You can check mine out here: http://forums.austarion.com/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

Likewise, I have a cage in my car but its hard to advise you what to do without some more info - all cages are different.

Mine is a Bond cage and Peter Muir said to me at the time he has made several cages over the years for Starions (right back to the Group E days) and no two were ever the same. He claims lot of small differences in the shells that dictates whilst there is a basic template, they all have to be individually measured for fitment. The key elements being where the cage needs to be snug against pillars, doors etc

I actually bought a second hand alloy cage that was said to be out of Starion before I got the Bond one and there was absolutely no way that was going to fit. So thats the conundrum. :beer

Sorry taking so long to reply, I've just got home from the Clipsal 500 :D :D
The roll cage kit is specifically for a Starion, built by Brown Davies Engineering in Sydney. There are no instructions, but I have identified all the pieces as most are labelled. All pieces are slightly over length, so they all need to be trimmed & scolloped etc before being welded into place. I am not going to bolt anything in, it will all be welded & permanent.
I was only asking for ideas on how others had fitted their cages without being too specific. Photos of other examples would be great.
