Couple of Starions at Autocross

Post by RiceThief »

We went to IWMAC autocross today, only just got one there on time as it was in the middle of getting painted. Forgot the memory card so didnt get a chance to take any action shots.

Running street tyres on dirt track auto-cross  or is there black stuff on the track surface ? Down here we only run on dedicated rally tyres.

NO rally tyres allowed under any circumstances no matter what car you bring as they rip up the track as this is a purpose built track not some farmers grass paddock.
All the serious competitors use semi slicks

Oldie - Jay did almost identical times to what I did last dirt sprint when it was my first time. We're looking foward to the dirt sprint in two weeks though.

panda - theres no black stuff on the track but it is compacted and is a hard surface.

Our track is certainly no "Farmers paddock". 2km of purpose built track comprising mainly compacted limestone & clay with the usual mud & puddles with some jumps. All great fun. Check out more at www.seacsa.com

Panda wasn't trying to upset N E 1 with my "farmers paddock " terminology but merely trying to say that it has had $30,000.00 spent on a total rebuild and it is in fantastic condition with no lumps , jumps or mud puddles
The track is hired out to rally driving ,advanced , defensive etc driving schools etc
It was also hired by the Team Toyota Rally team for Chad Reed to try his hand on 4 wheels in L 8 2008
In years gone by I have driven in events in farmers paddocks

Oldie, it takes a lot to upset a panda, & you haven't succeeded. :) :D
Did you check out our website for the details of our track ? Obviously the quickest cars here are Impezas, Evos etc in full rally trim, but plenty of 2WD's not far behind. My Staz is handicapped by the lack of driver ability.

Groupa - next event is on the 15th of March, so only two weeks away. As oldie stated, get in contact with the club president and join the club, then you need to get your cams license which is done through the club too.

http://www.iwmac.org.au/node/1, look at the how to start on the left menu bar for the things you need, ie the extension letter, fire extinguisher, secondary bonnet latch, and the right clothing. Also you dont need a civil license (ie drivers license) for the racing but obviously if you are driving there you will.

Must be a common starion issue as jay and myself have the same problem :D
