Widey on J-spec LHD

Not sure what to do with your government hand-outs?
Or you might have that Starion that's just running to the ground
that you're not too sure what to do with?
Perhaps you might have a spare parts car?

Here's a LHD widey ready to be snapped up in Japan! You'll need your spare Staz to restore this.
Then again, you could use it as a track car! Obviously, it's a LHD US Conquest imported/or retained in Japan
during the mid eighties.... the history of it would be interesting!
You could probably get a similar deal from the States, but with much less running around.

Another widey in Oz would be nice! :) Around $4k up front, then around $2-3K when it arrives.

If it costs $3g fob +$1g where does the other $2gs come from?

Thats the same price I paid for a 95 Silvia turbo in 2001, landed in NZ for under $3.5g (retail at the time $22g) I know the value of yen etc has changed.

I didnt know that widebodies were made early in 85 to be registered in 85.

2g comes from import taxes, duties, and gst and degassing of the aircon which is a new requirement.
Starions are a disease, the only cure is poverty.

Actually, $3000 FOB is getting the car ready for shipment on the dock, which includes the degassing.

The $2-3K refers to shipping to country, taxes, import duties/fees and GST, as well as transporting vehicle to your door!

To import a RHD widey now, (due to poor exchange rates), your looking at around $15K landed! And it wont be anything special!

The yanks got the widey midway thru '85 and I suppose this car was kept domestically???
Only way to explain the first rego in '85???? I'm assuming all Starion/Conquests were built in Japan!

Be careful... I seem to recall that this car does not have an engine fitted nor does it have any paperwork with it, so it cannot be exported - hence the reason it is listed in the "parts" section and not in the "cars for sale section" on Yahoo Japan. J-Spec would have just copied it onto their website listings.

Do all cars get degassed air con? or just older ones.

Freight on board price to us was getting from whereever in Japan to the wharf, and to NZ. Had to sort maf/customs etc separately.

Anyway our fun (inNZ) is over, only worth bringing in old cars now.

yep all cars inported to aus have to be degassed.

and remember 86 model year cars in the USA are manufactured from late 85, and same for other years. its that silly "model year" system they use, just to sell more cars...
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

The registrar nazi can't miss a trick here.....he is right! The car cannot be imported as a whole as there is no paper work.

Just been informed by J-spec that this is the case. The car can only be imported in parts....
probably similar to the way GroupARalliarts was done prior the 15 year rule was applied to it.

It is still possible, but a PainITA!!

The car is now off their list!!

Mal, GrpA's car was brought over via a container and came in under the old 15 year+ rule. That was the only way to get it in, but I had to chase up the original de-registration papers in Japan which was a PITA and $$$ but it worked.
