JA Rebuild updates

Post by Vulpes »

For anybody who has sprayed their car you know what I'm going through. It's an incredibly slow painful process of weeks of stripping paint, then undercoat. Now it's a long slow process of sanding the undercoat and making sure every little dent and imperfection is gone. i hope to put the first top coat on next week.

Panel fitment/lines of the car look spot on! Seems like you picked the right car for the rebuild :)

Do I get $200 cashback if I bring my car for a paint job LOL

yer thats true, although the car was in good condition for the average joe it was waaaaaay below the standard I could live with. I had to replace one of the front guards due to rust, there were several dents over the body,, the front spoiler is rooted but i hope a panel beater can one day fix it, in the meantime im fitting a redzone spoiler. I much prefer the original but what are you gunna do ( anybody want to swap a new redzone one reinforced with heaps more glass for a standard one in good nick pm me ) the engine is rooted but i have a spare, it wouldnt pull a sailor off your sister at the moment, the turbo doesnt spool up but again i have a great engine/turbo setup to drop in, the interior will be near perfect once I steal a couple of odd and sods from my donor car. Basically although in rough shape everything was there and fixable. It will be outstanding when its finished.

no its not 2 pac its just acrylic and its white as in the original colour. I HATE metallic paint on cars with a passion, I believe the person who invented metallic paint should be dragged naked through a barbed wire fence TWICE ! why the hell you would paint a car in something that is impossible to match without repsraying the entire car plus the three cars next to it is beyond me.
So no its not metallic :)

you can see the shine after i hit it with a 1200 wet and dry. There are hours and hours ahead of me, first going over it with 1000 then 1500 then 2000 then cut and polish.

update

Post by Vulpes »

in rubbing it back with 1000 grit wet and dry i started to notice a bit of discolouration even though i was being incredibly careful when sanding. I am going to rub it all down with 1000 then give it another 3 or 4 coats. I dont want it being thin in places even if its just my imagination.
