FS: Widebody Starion (NSW)
Black 1988 GSR-VR Starion widebody (JDM) 2.6L G54B engine, auto, with factory sunroof and leather, 86,000km.
Car is completely stock apart from aftermarket stereo and muffler.
Body is straight and rust free with very good paint for its age.
Car will be sold complied and registered in NSW. (This will also make registering it interstate much easier.)
Asking $12,000ono minus the current Japanese wheels on it. Stock wheels not available.
Or $15,000 with the Work LS109 ($$$) wheels currently on the car.

You have never driven one, have you :) .
The cost is in the importing, compliance and engineering involved to register one here. They are rare in Japan in a 88 model, not to mention finding a manual :P . The car does have a more solid feel on the road, and the wider track is really noticable. A lot of improvements were made in the final years, and the drivelines were upgraded too.
It costs 5k just to ship one over, let alone the side intrusion bars ect for compliancing.

Come and have a look at mine. I have always loved Starions and wold rate myself as the longest and most passionate enthusist on the forum but once I saw the widey there was no way I was not going to have one. I am a huge fan of all Starions but the widey with twin cam and big turbo is my holy grail. Worth every cent I believe and will no doubt be a collectable car in the future (even with the mods).leoca wrote:Are they really worth that much???.
There were less than 820 JDM widebodies (Starion GSR-VR) made. Of these, less than 300 were 1988 models (and therefore compliable in Australia). They are an enthusiasts/collectable car in Japan and therefore they demand a decent price over there. I have seen immaculate ones go for over a million Yen ($15k AUD). Most sell for over 500,000 Yen ($9K AUD these days).
You cannot get them on the road in Aus now due to the poor AUD/Yen exchange rate for under $15K. The costs associated with doing so simply don't allow it.
If they were as prevalent as they arein the US, then they would be worth as much as the earlier models. However, their exclusivity is reflected in their value.
With these facts in mind, I believe that this car is reasonably priced and also considering the fact that similar cars have sold previously for $14K plus, it is more than reasonable.
We are happy to keep it as getting a replacement for anywhere near the asking price won't be easy.

Steve's widey will be the an exceptional Starion. I cannot wait to see the finished project.

It is coming along nicely. Dave has taken a few pics. It has the red top twin cam sitting in the engine bay and Dave will have the gearbox fitted up very soon. The exhaust manifold will also be fabricated by Dave as a priority so I can get the 'hot' bits ceramic coated. If I can find the funds one day I would build a narrow body 'shell' with full cage and a stroked 4G63 for pure race/tarmac events. Need to finish the widey first!
