digging up an old thread..

i remember reading that starions have both afms and map sensors, and that it uses afm on low load and map on high load? is this true?

if so.. why would it run like shit if the afm was disconnected? wouldn't it just use the map signal instead? or would it just use the map signal on high load still? i suppose this could mean that you'd get better economy with a lead foot eh?

On my JD the car would start and idle fine with no AFM. As soon as the throttle opened the car would stall straight away. Never tried it the other way around but with no MAP and just AFM.
So im assuming the JD at least didnt use the AFM input on 0% TPS.

On JA/JB no idea, In Mackay we run MPI :D
-JA Starion with JD bits , Forged engine, Heaps of mods (parked up)
-BFII XR6 Turbo Ute , Here comes 400hp for 2k :p
-77 Mazda 323 drag car. 13bt rotary project.

Yes i have too many toys.

From my understanding the starion uses the afm to measure load and the map sensor to trim the fuel.

Make fine adjustment based on the what the map sensor sees.
