I was thinking that when I saw pictures of your diff setup - but I'm pretty sure the Cordia 4WD diff is different still. Yours mounts differently than the Cordia 4WD at least anyway. I couldn't find any good pics of the rear diff and subframe setup but I have these pics (taken from my cell phone years ago, sorry for quality crapness)
It was pretty toasted - this happened to the engine:
Kiwieurospec - the fellow that owned your car before you was under the impression that the diff was the same as a GTO one? He told me that he had to get a new pinion gear for it at some stage, and a GTO one fit.
yeah timeline definitely is waay off. The first Z15 GTO wasn't released until 1990, although the prototype car was around in 1987ish, but I would say the rear diff setup is similar to E39A Galant - as that car was developed with 4WD in mind.
The diff setup is probably similar to E39A, but it could use the same ratio as what the GTO uses.

Timeline seems a bit off tho.
Yeah he said that, I was actually thinking at the time he was talking of the old gto. But looking at the Cordia with the little driveshaft and the 3 bolt axles looks real similar.
I was thinking it must be similar to e39a galant with 4wd/4ws but they are a bit old now haven't had one in for years to compare.
1985 Widebody Factory Four Wheel Steering
1986 Euro Spec-ABS,LSD etc
I owned a Ja ,years back, which was off the road...& I bought a cheap cordia. It did it's job and rather quikly. It's massive amount of torque steer, shit suspension, crap build in comparison to a Starion let it down. Actually it was a pretty damn quick car,...would surprise wrx's & 300zx's of there day...but....whenever I drove it, I wished it was my Starion. I now own a Jb, and wouldn't mind owning several Starions; like most of the members on this site. It is a driving experience...and makes it a classic. I'll just have to let the other half drive it more often;...maybe she'll wan't one too! Or Three!

GK Sigma wouldn't have had those rims - the Cordia has +46mm offset like most other FWD/4WD Mitsis, the Sigma would have been about +25-32mm offset.
the funny thing about trent from punchy is that the same guys did that and the beached whale clip! i take it you've seen beached whale?
obviously.. as I knew what he was on about. Just like how you aussies all don't sound like Trent from Punchy, we NZers don't all sound like the beached whale clip.
