VR4 conversion problems.
VR4 conversion problems.
I've read the twincam sticky.
I'm currently in the middle of doing the conversion. Old engine is out of the car and I'm getting ready to drop in the twincam. Problem is, I've noticed the back of the head has an opening where it looks like some waterlines should be mounted. I'm not sure if I can block this off or if I need to source some part that goes there?

you need a water fitting there for the top hose to connect to via a transfer pipe. also some temp senders etc will have to be located there..
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

most people just get one fabricated up - not too hard to do, just get a flange cut out to suit and some piping with a bend in it, and make sure the whole lot doesn't protrude more than 40-50mm from the cylinder head.
Here's a pic of an Evo2 engine in an EX Lancer, and what they've done (even if it is quite crude):
I've also heard Datto 180B water outlet housings are almost suited to the job and take minimal modifications to fit.

if you're not in a major rush i'll be doing a run of twin cam specific conversion parts in the new year. like power steer brackets for twin cam on starion block, water fittings, exhaust manifolds etc

you use the twin cam air con bracket and pump. to match the twin cam pk type pulleys. the ps pump mounts in a similar to original location.

I don't suppose you could do a twin cam manifold to suit evo4+ twin scroll TD05HRA could you?
What sort of price would be looking at for power steering pump bracket and water routing?
Cheers

not too sure on price yet, if its cost effective i'll be making prototypes then getting a metal fab shop to do a production run of them. the manifolds i'll prob be making myself, as i have had a 100% no crack success rate so far with the one's i've done..
i can put any flange on, but the evo4 turbo is gonna be a low mount manifold, i'll be making high mounts predominantly with a T3 flange.

I'm hoping to have this thing done within a couple weeks, but I'll be interested once I start doing the conversion on my starion.redzone wrote:if you're not in a major rush i'll be doing a run of twin cam specific conversion parts in the new year. like power steer brackets for twin cam on starion block, water fittings, exhaust manifolds etc
