JA starion intercooler setup
hey
na its running the same as a 86-89 intake manifold and throttle body i which is round intake as in guessing you have a oval shape intake/throttle. i could think of few way off the top of my head but don't think they will work.

mine's setup the same way pretty much, except I'm running the really early round port injection from 1980, very similar to JA Starion except big AFM and different type inlet, but will be no different to route up than a JA Starion.
Here's mine:

So you upgraded to a much larger turbo, and have less lag because you remved the intercooler, i guess every car manufacturer has something to learn from youBLK79 wrote:i used 2" standard starion pipeing and intercooler now resorted back to no intercooler and an upgrade to a evo 1,2,3, turbo with a 20g turbine witch spools up a lot faster and no lag
He's probably right that it spools quicker without an intercooler and long pipework, BUT the intake temperatures will be a lot higher especially if it is boosting over 6 or 7 psi. So maximum horsepower will be down due to high intake temps and low boost.adrian wrote:So you upgraded to a much larger turbo, and have less lag because you remved the intercooler, i guess every car manufacturer has something to learn from youBLK79 wrote:i used 2" standard starion pipeing and intercooler now resorted back to no intercooler and an upgrade to a evo 1,2,3, turbo with a 20g turbine witch spools up a lot faster and no lag

not to mention he's comparing a stock intercooler setup with long and restrictive piping to no intercooler setup full stop. the guy's obviously a winner...

that's because at that stage intercoolers were probably too expensive to manufacture, and they weren't considered a standard option. In Japan at the same time as the JA was around you could get an intercooled model with the GSR-III.BLK79 wrote:i was saying that the standard intercooler and almost 2.5 meters of pipe with the standard turbo has to much lag and that the ja starion didnt come out with an intercooler from mitsubishi
None whatsoever.BLK79 wrote:do you get aany brake fading at all

Yes
Yes i can back that because mines a ja 84 gsr3 factory intercoolered use to run an tco5-12a and had no lagg whats so eva and that was standed no mods done apart from k&n filter and 2'5" exhaust from turbo so cant under stand why people are going on about lagg. cause that didnt stuffer from lag well mine didnt.dirtygalant wrote:that's because at that stage intercoolers were probably too expensive to manufacture, and they weren't considered a standard option. I've got a stock engine with TC06, 2.5" exhaust and 2" piping for the E39A cooler, I get full boost just after 3000rpm.
The Lancer Evo IX still used 2" intercooler piping so it must be fine for 300hp or thereabouts.
