Going around corners one thing , gtrs will always rule , Straight line grunt , top end pwr , it is proven look at the old HPF yellow monaro , before it hit a tree it was at low nines standered internals , IRS and 3 speed auto , it had about 20 passes , Like to see a gtr last that long , 9000 rpm launches , cant do that all day , If the clutch dont slip , gearbox will break . Have a look at the GTRs I played with last year on you tube , R E customs dyno days , for skyline au , also fuel cut tv show .

What the Hell ?
Ok, who in their right mind would fit a V8 into a starion ? :x Next thing you know they will be removing the independant rear end and putting in a live axle and leaf springs. Hell why not go all the way down the technological regression path and slap on 4 wheel drums, remove the power steering and give it a good ole fashion 4 barrel holley. Should be good for about 5mpg. Seriously people are so retarded :roll:

a lot the current hypo hi tech engines are v8.. look at the m3.. look at the s4.. the upcoming lexus/supra hipo car is going to be v8..
don't flame the v8 just because australia and america can't be arsed updating their 1960s design..
sure enough, an ls1 starion may not be the best of plans.. but you could do somethign like this since this particular v8 is all alloy and extremely lightweight (177kgs all up if i remember correctly):

Sure fitting one of these into a starion is a step forward not backward, unless I am mistaken this V8 is out of a leyland ? How's that 70's V8 technology going for ya.

Think about it from a different perspective from yours and mine.. people always like jamming big engines into small bodies.. and you end up with the AC Cobras and what not.. the new school v8s are rather efficient and don't need to have a 6 litre capacity.. so what do you do when you wanna do something crazy like putting a gigantic engine into a small car? you go for that big block 1970s v8.
in much the same way it doesn't make sense to use something like a starion or an exige as a daily driver when you can get a corolla to give you better economy and more boot space, it doesn't make sense to do silly things like stash a big block into a staz and then drift it.. but it's human nature to do things that are out of the ordinary.. imagine how boring life would be if EVERYBODY did the smart thing and all you saw on the roads were corollas... you need the nutters to make life interesting ;)
and case in point.. if you actually want to take a starion drifting, a heavier front end makes more sense as well.. but then again drifting doesn't make much sense to me anyway.. looks like fun though

Before passing comment you need to have experienced a hard core small block in a light weight body. Yes not as quick as a turbo 4 but a hell of a lot noisier and bloody good fun. I had a run in a 340 cu Mopar TA motored GK sigma a few years back and it was scarey! My 318 VE ute couldn't touch my EVO but I know which one I would choose to have a run around the track in for pure fun and adrenaline: the ute, V8 nothing like it for the complete package of speed, torque and sound. Just not weight

I understand all your points and agree with you but I think I didn't make why I'm so opposed to a V8 in a Starion. I see the Starion as a pretty unique kind of car, way ahead of it's time and very technologically advanced for it's time. I think they should be preserved that way, thats just sentimental old me. I don't doubt for a minute a small block would be faster than a 2.0, of course it would but to me it's not about performance, it's just about what the starion stands for. When my dad was a live he was a mad Jaguar fan, he had XK140, XJS, e types etc etc, you name it he had it at one time or other. Dad was a motor mechanic by trade and he and I could never understand the sheer bastardry and stupidity that involved taking an engine like an overhead cam jaguar six or twelve and putting in a chev 350. That's just not going backwards, that's reverse Darwinism at it's finest.

I agree a Starion should remain mitsubishi powered and even making the decision to go twin cam was a big step for me. I wanted to have the ultimate Starion (to me) so a black widebody with a hipo twin cam is going to be the result - I hope! It needed to roll on big Simmons rims and be low and stiff. Yes, I would love to have a 'muscle' version with a high comp 340 (I still have a desire to do that but there would be far too much expense involved and will eventually find a nice clean VC Valiant to put the small block into). I would have no problems with anyone else doing their Starion the way they would like to but seeing my old JA, a factory Ralliart car 'butchered' certainly brings a tear to the eye.
When you sell a car Steve it is now in the hands of the new owner no matter what he does to it. If he wants to smash it into a brick wall or set it on fire it's up to him. You selling that car has relinquished your right to decide what happens to it. When I discovered that it was a race car I had already past the point of no return so I had no choice. Had I known of it's history I would not have gone a different route. I am wrapped to see it made it back onto the road and would love to see it in the flesh. How many Starion owners have shit box Starions in their back yard that a rusting away never to see the blacktop again. Would they rather this with it having the original engine still or would they rather it back on the road in any form.............. even a V8. A 383 is a Chrysler V8 which has family ties to Mitsubishi anyway.
