You'll know if it's rear crank seal as your clutch will start slipping like there's no tomorrow once it gets contaminated with oil. Which means if it is that, you're up for a new clutch too.
It's definitely not from the cylinder head area? How good is your rocker cover gasket?

WHY!!! spent $200 at the mechanic when you could spend $100 at Kmart on some ultra-something-quality tools, $10 odd bucks on the seal then spend your whole weekend crawling around in the dirt, inventing new swear words, throwing stuff, beating stuff and in general getting really pissed off but in the end you can sit back with a beer knowing you won! or, at least, you think you won.......

I figured out the meaning of life, and since then every day just gets worse.

im not confident enough with myself to try to fix the problem.. as simple as it may be, i still think i should leave it to the mechanic..
but im proud to say, i managed to get my oil pressure gauge to work after it being stuck on HIGH (even higher than the HIGH notch).. i just opened the plastic cover covering the dash.. and used my finger to physically give the pin a little nudge in the down direction.. it felt like it was stuck quite firmly.. so i pushed it harder.. and bingo.. it fell down slowly (like the petrol/temp gauge pins do when u switch off the car).. then i started the car and gave a couple of revs.. i was so happy to see when i reved up, the pressure gauge moves up.. when i let go, it moves back down.. :D
now all i have to do is wait till i can get my oil leak fixed..

Scum, that's the best description of home mechanics that i've ever heard.
Androoz - if you've got the time, then it probably it worth doing as much stuff as you can yourself. I've replaced clutches, master cylinders, tie rods etc.. at a fraction of the cost that a mechanic would have charged me.
If you want a starion, then it's probably a good idea to learn to do it yourself.

this is one of those 'looks and sounds hard' kinda probs, but really, it aint. you have to start repairing this thing by yourself oneday, so may aswell start now. plan for it to take most daylight hours over the weekend, and keep the puta online for any questions...

yep, do it yourself. What happens next time? you could take it to a mechanic again, or know exatcly what your doing and it will only take a day. Once you do it, you learn it and never have to take it too a mechanic again. Feels great doing something yourself, you learn heaps and save even more.

hehe.. yeah sounds like a good idea.. although im a full time uni student so i dont have the time.. :(
btw u guys.. could this leak be affecting my oil pressure gauge? i did mention i "fixed" it by pushing the pin down.. but i now realise it reads oil pressure, but really LOW.. and when i idle, it is on ZERO.. could the oil leak and seal problem cause this?

The fact that the gauge got stuck on high and you had to unstick it means it may now not be calibrated correctly. The needle may have turned on the spindle.
Get a mechanical oil pressure gauge on there and see what the actual oil pressure is.
A slow leak due to a bad seal will not drastically affect oil pressure.
