HOW CLOSE CAN YOU GET????
Ok... so I did smash my ring lands, I'm guess while tuning.chunkhead wrote:I love how this is panning out! TOMSUN, you are aware that if you make 210bhp+ you WILL blow your pistons into a thousand pieces!? rofl
Anyway I ended up going a forged bottom end. AND...........!!!!!!!!
JUST GOT IT START TODAY :D after a slow build up. Big thanks to my Dad and brother-in-law for the hands on help and thanks to REDZONE for the occasional phone support and to the rest of the forum for the technical support. And last but not least my beautiful wife for being very understanding.
Many a time I thought to myself that I'll never get it going and that I'll end up parting out the car.... But ... Patience... (and money)
So the guessing game continues. (Re: First post)
A set of wheels next weekend and tuning will happing over the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, Chunkhead was spot on! First post updated.
Yeah, it's great fun to drive, but she runs pretty hot now. No front spoiler now makes a big difference.
Trying to get a new/modified front bib spoiler and I have put 20mm spacers on my bonet hinges to get better airflow under the bonnet and get rid of the heat.
Been rained off from WSID twice in a row!. Trying for thrid time lucky :D

dont get me wrong, i'm not bagging tom at all, but even allowing for different dyno readings thats still lower than it should be.
the curve looks sweet as, so thats why i think its the turbo...

Hi Dave,
Yeah, I was kind of expecting bigger numbers. I have been told that the RB25 turbo will suport approx 180rwkw on 16psi, But that's on the the RB20DET (2L)
As Shannon says... Its not the numbers it makes, but the times it does... And time will tell.
But I'm happy with the way it goes after the tune... for now anyway.... I might chase some more power later. But that just means more money...
High flowed turbo $1,200
Fuel pump $400
Full 3" exhaust $600
Electronic boost controller $400
Retune $300
Approx $3,000 total.
With that I would expect to get 200rwkw on 18psi. And maybe a low 13sec 1/4 mine?

yeah i'd definitely dump the R33 turbo entirely. either go for a garrett or a KKR. GT3076R with internal gate rear housing would be the go. or a KKR430 if you're on a budget.
a customer of mine put a KKR430 on his RB20 engined silvia, he made 302 rwhp, his friend with exactly the same combination but with a GT2871R in an RB20 rear housing made 280 rwhp on the same dyno, running same boost etc. they came on at very similar times too...
