JB/JD Driving Lights / No Hi-Beam.
JB/JD Driving Lights / No Hi-Beam.
Hey Guys/Gals,
Does anyone want to make a tutorial/article with pics on how to make the driving lights come on when you push the Standard button, but so that you can drive around with just the driving lights on etc. (Don't start giving me a lecture about how you shouldn't drive with them around town blah blah, heh cause i know) I want to be able to switch them on separately without hi beam because it is a completely stupid thing, light why you would want hi beam on when trying to drive through fog etc. Winter is coming up and the fog is getting thicker, would like to get it done.
Kath you have done this conversion haven't you??
Thanks in advance. Appreciate it immensely. :)
Cheers
Ben

the setups ive seen on conversions are just a switch somewhere (above fusebox?) and you can just switch them on seperately from there. maybe you could wire a new switch to the lights, so give them power from the battery, then run the ground wire to a switch in your cabin so you can control them seperately from there? not sure tho, i'm no sparky!

Mine already does this. Perhaps Im just confused.
I have 3 buttons for headlamps, ON, LOW, OFF (they have diagrams)
LOW runs the driving lamps only
ON runs main headlamps and driving lamps
OFF well duh
Park Lamps are switched on the other side of the console
High Beam/Low Beam in the normal steering column place.
When on hi beam my driving lamps turn off - which is very very annoying. So perhaps somebody in the past has had some fun with my wiring.
Best bet is to just fit another switch, and another relay. Ive done this on many a car when installing aftermarket lamps. Very easy to do.

soneone must have changed the wiring in ur car or maybr ther´s a diffrece betwen jap one´s and euro one´s cuz in my car i also have 3 buttons Low turns park lights on and ON turns park and pop up lights on and if i pull the lever to put hi-beams on they will stay on,
but if i push the off button on the pek and pop up ligts come on when i start the car and if i pull the lever the hi-beams will stay on wile i hold the lever
but for u camotec i think the best thing to do is wire a realy that will only gon on with the parking lights and have a button that u can turn them off seperetly, i would do tihs way because here in iceland it is illegal to have lo-beams and fog ligts on at the same time in the city

Cookie wired them up when we put the JB bar on my white car. He put an extra fuse in the fuse box and wired the switch into power so you could turn them on and off any time (even with the ignition off as the odd flat battery can confirm).
I did get hassled by the cops a few times, but managed to get out of any fines :beer

If you can get your hands on a spare LH shroud button cluster , you could rob one of the switches and put it in the spare button postion on your shroud. Wire this directly to your relay. Alternatively , you could get a 3 position switch that could switch between the 2 modes , either an over-ride switch or switched by your high-beam.
Please excuse my crappy computer art , but this might help.
