Silly Question..........but

Post by 83Starion »

Hi all as stated, i'm new to this "turbo" thing, but what is a good turbo to put on (a) standard engine and one that is pretty done up with head and bottom end done a bit. and how do you go about getting the manifold for them............

Cheers

I my opinion the td05 big 16g is the best option for both. If you do a serach for this you will find out all the info you will need and even a few websites to help you out. :D :beer

Best advice you will get, is get you current Turbo High-flowed. This will be relatively cheap and bolt back onto everything. If you can afford to pay a little more to your Turbo specialist, possibly $100, have the Wastegate modified to suit a proper 16G or 20G Compressor cover.

I guess the question is, what condition is the stock Turbo in ? Does it have any shaft play in it ? If its good then high-flow it, but if the Turbine wheel has cracks/fractures in it, get a completely new Turbo but you will have to modify the exhaust and overall won't be a cheap exercise.

yep tdo5 big 16g will work fine i had one on mine and i used the factory exhaust manifold all i did got the hole where the turbo bolts on to the manifold machined out to the same size as the turbos exhaust case and use the td05s gasket, and get custom dump pipe made for turbo, then its just a mater of turning the compressor casing around to suit your intercooler piping
and the middle part of the turbo where all the oil feeds and water feeds run though it and all the original feeds should bolt up. and just make a custom bracket so your waste gate bolts on. :beer

Depends on your buget but i would recomend a turbo conversion garretts are pricey but you get what you pay for if you buy second hand crap you end up spending twice the money on the same shit and you still have old shit i would go a gt garrett every time
