The head might have gotten too soft allowing the gasket to blow out all the time. I've recently priced a bare 63 and 64 head and they are identical dollars.

Definitely use the head gasket to suit the 64 Block. Get the best one that money can buy...
If you put a starion head on a 64 bottom end you WILL RAISE THE COMP RATIO !!!!! NOT LOWER IT
tHE 64 HEAD HAS APP 70CC CHAMBER THE 63 HAS APP 50CC .You do the math
But you can use a Cometic gasket. Do NOT repeat NOT use a 64 gasket if you are going to use a 63 head
This is about single cams only
I've had mine since 03 07 92
85 JB 2323cc DOHC 4G63
THE OLDER I GET THE FASTER I WAS
GROWING OLD IS MANDATORY GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL

Just seen this now. Rad is right, the Starion head will raise not lower the comp. My bad. I had 63 block and 64 head on my mind, totally focused on it in fact at the time. Had it arse about. Apologies... Use a gasket to suit the 63 head - given your issues use a Cometic one for sure.

Has the conversion started?
