Hello All,
I've been reading the forum for a little while now and finally got around to taking a photo and signing up.
Firstly a big thankyou to all those who make this site possible. My big breakthrough was spotting an old post from someone (forget who) with all the lowdown on fixing an air-leaking MAP sensor with a bicycle repair patch. My lovely 1982 JA Starion is now purring like a kitten so thanks again for the site and the forum.
My name is Shane. Way way back in 1989, as a young 22 year-old, I flew in to Melbourne, spent the weekend at a mate's place and scoured half the city for a good Starion. After many test drives and umming and aahing over a number of Starions of varying quality, I settled on a single-owner silver '82 JA model from a young couple in Carnegie (Vic) for $16,000 !! They had started a young family and were rapidly outgrowing the car so it was a reluctant sale (I was told at the time that tears had been shed - and rightly so). So I proudly drove it onto the boat for the Monday night sailing across to Devonport, then opened it up on the 300km drive down to Hobart with a bursting europhia that doesn't come along all that often (and not so many speed traps back in those days either).
Fast-forward 18 years and the silver Starion is now garaged at the family home in Berriedale here in beautiful Hobart. Now I'm the one with the young family with the Starion doing the school drop-off and taking me on to work. I tell my eldest son of the love I feel for the car. He rolls his eyes (takes after his mother). Philistines the lot of 'em.
Anyway I'll stop rambling.
My / Car Details are:
Nick: 82JA-SH2000
Model: JA
Build Date: May 1982
Comp Date: Jul 1982
Trim: A1
Body: SH
Options: E59 D26
Vin (last three digits) 624

Been killing time reading all of your profiles and was amazed at all of you callow youths aged 35 to 45 calling yourselves "old farts "so I began to think what does that make me ??
maybe I should stop investing ????? in my JB & start looking 4 a suitable aged care home & change my nic to Geriatric Fart & hand my JB over to Guru as he considers it to be " his inheretance "
What do you all think ??
