Rear Wheel Spacers

OK, I have a dilemma.

The Simmons I got for the rear of the track car do not clear the rear calipers by about 10mm. The choices are ditching the wheels (see 'for sale' section), go to a 16" rim to go around the caliper or add a 10mm spacer to move the wheel out from the caliper and go over it.

Does anyone have a set of spacers (10mm) to suit the rear of a Starion they might want to part with? If not I am going to get a set made up today/tommorrow but thought I'd try here first

Also, if I go with the spacer option I need 10mm longer wheel studs for the rear. What is the standard size and thread pitch?

Any help will save a LOT of money.

Greg, you can get spacers at most wheel tyre shops, auto shops ect.
They're not the best idea, and for a track car which will be putting huge strains on the rear hubs and bearing during constant hard cornering, I'd get wheels that are a correct offset.
Spacers that are welded to the rim is a safer alternative, but if they need 10mm to clear the caliper, Id imagine they might really need 20mm spacing to achieve the original offset.
The good thing about Simmons is you can buy only the outer rim in any offset you want. Ask nxtime about this as he knows all the ins and outs and what offsets are best :)

Chef, the spacers Wantsom will get made will be flanged. IE they are not just a flat spacer but instead sit on the hub centre hole. The spacer will also have a centre section that the wheel sits on. Running this spacer would put no more pressure on the wheel bearings then running a wheel with a different offset or simply a wider rim.

Wantsom.. come over and grab an old wheel stub from me. Take it to Repco at Kellyville. Get them to pull out the NICE product catalog. NICE have a wheel stud of the exact same dimensions as Starion ones but are 20mm or so longer.

Davidh also has the part number of these wheels studs.. so send him an email or PM.

hmmm, if u want cheap spacers i just removed mine off the car, I have 2 x 5mm and 2 x 8mm spacers, they cost $60 all up, Im willing to part with all of them for $20.

greg, get a copy of the brake upgrade tech file from the camotec site.
the long wheel stud part number is in there, last page i think.
for 10mm spacing, you would need to cut some off them.
i will try to get out to see what you and cookie are up to this weekend.

wantsom i have gona with spacers to fit my rims... the spacers i got, you dont need longer wheels studs as the spacer itself bolts onto the hub, then it uses its own studs for the wheels.

i got them from used tyre mart in adelaide

Thanks guys,

This will probably be an interim solution to get the car on the ground and mobile for things like wheel alignments/exhaust/dynoing etc or until I either get the wheels changed to the correct offset or come up with some other brainwave.

TMZ, appreciate the offer but I need a minimum of 10mm. 5 and 8 still wont give me the clearance I need. Thanks anyway

Greg, What about bolt-on hub spacers? They cost about $200 and come in a variety of spacing sizes and are similar to these:

I was hoping Dr. Kelf would come on this thread and help out and repay some of the valuable assistance I've given him with his techy problems. rofl

I mean look at all the stuff I've helped him with - turbo problems, BOV's, his fridge, pointing out some of his less than social habits, amusing him with humour when he's been down, pointing out his white knuckles when he's at speed, assisting him with retirement home addresses when he ws looking for a date - the list is endless. When I need some help he's nowhere, absolutely nowhere. Hiding even. Very disappointing.

BTW - got my guages this morning and Aerotech rear spoiler yesterday WOOHOO!!!
