Cutting bonnent vents

i was looking at my bonnent today and i noticed that the scoops and the vents have only litle openings. I assume this is to keep water out whilst at driving speeds.
Has anyone widened the outlets on the two rear vents and is it advisable

yes, Ive done it.. Ive found a hell of a lot of heat escapes out of these vents... on cold days u can see it coming out after some hard driving..

Done it, makes a noticeable difference too.
If you do it, go slow otherwise you'll cook your paintwork, assuming you use an anglegrinder...

I cut open the bonnet under the side vents and removed the rubber underneath the vents. You'll get a lot better air flow.. alot of heat will be allowed to escape but be very careful washing the car. Water will get in there easy.

I've never had any problems in the rain though.

I have cut open and widened the air vents and replaced them with larger Cosworth-style ones. As mentioned above, they allow alot of heat to escape and their position will see the opening located over the strut tops, so rain/water hasn't been a problem for me.

I took the side vents out first, then cut underneath where they sit. Like Cookie, I also removed the rubber bits from underneath the vents.
I also took to the front scoop with a saw, and made the opening a lot bigger. For this I had to trim my heatshield a little underneath the bonnet, but more air definitely gets in now.

It's worth it...

cut the 2 side thingys, which dont have any venting capability,
and fitted cosworth style vents. very good airflow, no water problems.
opened up the front bonnet/hood scoop so it flows air into the engine bay.
not sure if that had any benefit, but i intend it to duct cool air over the turbo, when i get around to making the ducting.

Also on a Starion with the metal x-over pipe, this air from the large bonnet vent will help keep this pipe cooler.

So should improve intake air temp when moving.

Has any one photographed there bonnet, once cut open?
I wouldn't mind seeing instead of attempting to visualize how and what exactly has been done.

Cookiemonster, with the front bonnet vent that big, do you get a lot of air into the engine bay which in turns tries to inflate the bonnet lid right off the car??? or worse, cause the front end to lift right off the ground??

great for wheelies..... :D
