yeah seen this on the US forums a little while back. Maybe a week or so. But I don't think it will be the new starion. Just designs based of it. Unfortunately.

The Eclipse is a much better known name so they would probably stick to the Ecplise name if it ever came to production.

Odds on, the Concept-RA will be the new Eclipse. Every thing about it says Eclipse, over the top styling, same lines as the last model (which was shit by all accounts) S-AWC, SST, 2.2 TD, a car to please the masses. If they do make this the new Starion I will be very very disappointed.
Imagine what they could do? Base it on the evo9 (as it is so much better then the x) 80’s inspired body (pop-up head lights and all) RWD Man’ 6 and the 4b11. Should be easy for them to keep it under 1300kg (loss of awd system, and the 4b11 being lighter and stronger) and punch out 240-250kw and close to 460nm. Should be good for a sub 5sec 0-100 and low 13’s ¼.
I have a car. I use it to drive to work, to drive to work I need petrol, petrol cost money, I must work to make this money… it’s a vicious cycle!

scroll down theres a sketch af a mitsubishi coupe they said it was more like a eclipse heres what they said

"As if there wasn't enough to look forward to at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, Mitsubishi teases us with these sketches of thew Concept-RA, which we can only hope is indicative of the reincarnation of a new Eclipse as a vehicle worthy of the old Eclipse. The aggressive shoulders and sloping beltline are your first hints of the second generation Eclipse, while the nose makes it a very obvious nod to the new EVO.
Mitsubishi Concept-RA"

"Mitsubishi out to wow Detroit

Mitsubishi has released sketches of the concept coupe it will unveil at next month's Detroit motor show.

The sculpted two-door is called the Concept-RA and could well point to the next generation Eclipse coupe that has been a core vehicle in Mitsubishi's American stable.

There is also talk in Japan that the concept will lead to a 21st-century version of the Starion coupe of the 1980s and the GTO of the 1990s.

The Concept-RA uses the S-AWC all-wheel-drive system and twin-clutch transmission from the Lancer Evolution 10.

But instead of the go-fast Evo's turbocharged 2-litre petrol engine, Mitsubishi has teamed the clutch with a direct-injection 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit producing 150kW (200bhp) and 420Nm of torque, similar torque output to the Evo. The Lancer Evo 10 has just gone on sale in New Zealand in manual guise. The first of the cars using the twin-clutch will arrive in the new year.

The Concept-RA has a space frame made up of extruded aluminium sections and die cast aluminium members. Plastic resin is used for most exterior panels to cut weight.

I know, we're off topic, but did you see the article above it for the new Kia Borrego? How is that pronounced? Borrie-go.
So next year we get to watch the Borrie go. LOL LOL

Back on topic, Starion is not a fitting name for this new Mitsu due to lack of general prominance around the world and the whole issue of the name history in the first place...
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

I'll be back in Japan probably in February so I'll find out then . I've got some good contacts inside Mitsubishi who are always helpful.

My feeling from what's here though is that it's more likely to be an Eclipse as the STARION was a 'special' model that morphed into the new GTO and the Eclipse .

Having said that , the Starion is still a 'cult' car in Japan and they do like reviving old names ( eg. GTO ) , so you never know
