ABS removal

Hey guys.

Me again. I would just like to try and find out about the ABS system removal. I keep hearing people talk about removing it. I want to know the pro's and con's about removing the ABS system. I would have assumed it was a good idea to keep it on. Thanks

Single channel ABS is a waste of time. Well, it is just extra weight and it's probably far more dangerous than being able to threshold brake.

Why did they even bother, was it for marketing purposes only? :roll:

anyone got a little bit more info? More technical info would be great. I don't wanna strip the car of something that you see commonly on cars these days. (I know they are different and work on all 4 these days though)

I have asked the same thing, as I dont want it eather,
Ive looked at the manuals on this removal and it looks
like we need to take out Module/gyro/other junk and it
would seem that we can use stock brake lines from our
master cylinders to stock (spider) (5 way block) to rear
brakes.

yes u just use the parts from a normal aussie delivered non abs car, u dont have to modify anything, it can be converted back later if the car is ever restored..

way i look at it is like this..

what happens if it fucks up and u need to repair it? where are u gonna get parts for the module? its a basically useless extra weight that adds complexity and possibility of failure in your braking system.

and gets in the way of intake manifolds woody!

It's quite a common mod on UK cars, i no i few people who have done it with no ill affects and i'll be doing it to mine over the winter. Basically you just make up a brake pipe to fit between the inlet and outlet and take out the pump bit. That simple apparently.

ok so in retrospect, it doesn't help your braking ability at all? Or does it? It sounds to me like I might have to do this mod. They have removal kits in the states for this mod, and I have found that it is quite common.

no kit needed i removed mine and just bent the line over to reconnect
where i removed the unit

ABS is better on heavy cars, lite cars without ABS can stop faster than lite cars with ABS, its all got to do with the low momentum of lite cars and the fact they get the same traction on the road which makes the ABS useless...

The LHD kit won't work on your car. Just get a new line bent up to suit. Or buy a 2nd hand line from Redzone for a non-ABS car.

Tri26, the junction block on a non-ABS starion is a three-way block.
The line in and then it splits to each rear wheel.

Rola not quite true It takes a very very good driver who can threshold brake on all surfaces in wet & dry conditions to better a good abs system especially one that can do so in extreme situations Most people panic and lock up & then push even harder when they think they won't stop in time & try to steer but can't
with abs you can steer .
so 4 the average motorist abs is a godsend regardless of the weight of the car

Im thinking that something will have to be done with the
ABS light on the dash ??
and hope there are NO other wires that have to be reworked? .
