Um Gerg, I don't recall ever discussing with you about lacy maids outfits!

All I can assume is that, as you are nearly the same age (older of course) that you are under the impression I have the same fetishes that you do!!

However, WANTSOM, not withstanding, back to the original reason for this post.

My turbo is starting to die. (blowing smoke) The BOV was installed when I put the IC in. I am trying to work out whether the BOV was tightened up too much and this has caused the Turbo to die or whether putting the boost up to 12lbs has caused the problem or whether just the engine rebuild was too much for it. :(

Either way I now have to replace the turbo as accelerating hard now produces a cloud of blue smoke!!! Guess I could say it's part of the cars defence mechanism a'la The DB6 out of Goldfinger!!! :)

Darkelf,
turning the boost up will mean more revolutions for the turbo to keep up so if your turbo was a bit tired in the first place you may have just pushed it over the edge :(

Darkelf - Judging by the fact I've now learned Starions basically have no BOV valves, I don't think closing yours would of hurt the turbo. Probably just the turbo seals dying of age and use.

merlin - as far as I'm aware from what I have read in the past at NZMMC, TD06's typically are ballbearing, and normally have internal wastegates. Was a guy on there who was a diesel mechanic, who said he could get TD06 turbos with no wastegate, designed for tractors! :D

Can also go hardcore and get a TD07 or TD08 but too hard to spool :(

Dave AFAIK they are internally wasted and have no ball bearings. Unlike someone on this forum (and I cant mention Kim's name here rofl )who is eternally wasted and ... well you guess the rest.

Blue Smoke? that would be petrol smoke then, not oil.

So then what mitsi turbos (if any) are ball-bearing?
are the TD06 turbos cermaic shaft or something else?

Kelfy,

If the BOV is adjusted tightly and is not venting air the backflow to the turbo will be there, however if you are still getting the air release noise then don't worry as enough air will generally escape to stop backflow and equalize pressure.

But as said before I don't think this would be the cause of the turbo failure prolly just old seals. I am rebuiling my hiflow TC06 with new seals since the play is good and the blades on both sides are perfect. Just polishing up the compressor housing and puting in the new o-rings guides and gaskets.
