toyota folks use the common W58 celica 5speed gearbox behind their killer 1.6/1.8L 4 cylinder motors. Strong box, shifts smooth too
This guy told me his "shifts fine @10,000+ rpms"! lol

I will be stripping/wrecking out my JA in the next few weeks and it has a perfectly good box - $200 if you need it.

I know there's a guy here in chch that does straight cut gears for the w58 for like $3000 but I suppose if your serious on keeping your car for good it would be a good investment for a gearbox that will stand the test of time.

nah i was thinking about getting the gears for the 2L sigma box or straight cut gears for the starion box, as the gearbox has starion gears in it, i should change the heading...
im going to ring a gearbox place in newcastle tomorrro hopefully they can rebuild the box for not too expensive

i think starion and 2l sigma gears are identical just the bearings are different in the two boxes?

really? that would be good, i guess. easier to get the gears for. do you know this for sure? This would make sense though as i have a recepit for the gearbox rebuild and the only parts listed on the rebuild recepit were starion bearings. it was only rebuilt about 2 years ago so the bearings should still be fine, shouldn't they?

As long as no chips or other bits have messed up your bearings they should be oke..

looks like the old nz vs oz thing again.

4G52 2LT sigma/scorpion alloy case box we got here has narrower gears than starion. i have seen it with my own eyes. obviously the 4G63 turbo sigma/scorpion thing u guys got will have the same width gears as a starion box as the running gear is pretty much all the same
