i bought my starion in feb 2003. it had a few basic mods small intercooler exhaust and new turbo. but due to an unknow reason the engine let go and i dropped the 3rd cylinder. so the last 10 months i have been rebuilding everything in the car.
so far i have done.
exhaust/intake
the exhaust i have just fiinished building. its a 2.5" mandrel bent 316 stainless steel consisting of a double dump and a sigle cannon muffler. the exhaust manifold needed an adapter plate to fit the garret t03 and the stock manifold needed to be ground out cause the hole was alot smaller than the turbine hole. on the intake i have built a new airbox and new intercooler piping upto a new cooler which is on order through work. it measures 785 x 300 x 85 and just fits in between the front bar mounts. i have also made a c02 sprayer for it consisting of a couple of 12volt solnoids a 15lb c02 bottle from the home brew barn and 4 metres of braided line and a few brass fittings. as the car isn't going i don't know how well it will work however the Nitrous express kit is rated at 50-60 rwhp if i got 25 out of mine i would be happy any more is a bonus. the only other mod is the bov.
fueling
i managed to get onto a second starion fuel pump and 2 smaller supply pumps so i spent a week making a surge tank which is supplied by the lift pumps and the 2 starion pumps draw from that and then join in a y peice pushing up through 10mm line. all this will do is give me more fuel press therefore pushing more through the injectors therfore more boost can be run. about 15 psi i have a airfuel ration gauge to go in so more boost may be on list but engine strength then comes into it.
drive chain.
the gearbox is getting rebuilt atm and i have an extreme clutch to go in it which has 4 times the clamping power than the stock PBR replacement the car has factory lsd so everything else is untouched.
rolling stock/ suspension
the rims are 17x 7.5 at the front and 17x 10 at the rear. tyres are all bridgestone pontenza RE010 ZR17215/45 at the front and RE020 ZR17255/40 at the rear. when the car was going the were very sticky and held the road well actually a little too well as you had to really force the car to over steer.
new monroe sport shocks are sitting at home ready to go in along with king spring lows which will drop the ride height about 35-45mm. all the suspension rubbers have been relaced with super pro nalothane items from work. while under the car i scrapped all the old rust proofing off into a bucket and it weighed in at 12.9 kg. i resprayed the it all again with underbody deadener which roughly weighs in at 4-5 kg. its not a big weight saving but its interesting to now how much old sump oil mixed with years of roads grim and dirt weighs. but it worked well the car has only one spot of rust.
Brakes
rebuilt brake booster with new master cylinder and castrol synthetic brake fluid. under the front i have new dba slotted rotors and new standards at the rear and bendix advanced pads all round. the car should stop on a 5 cent peice.
interior
i resrayed the interior bucktan satin and gloss jet black. i got new floor carpet. i have 3 gauges in there atm but i have yet to put the air fuel ratio gauge in. the stereo is mostly sony xlod from work. the head unit is a mpx-50mp3 front speakers are 4 inch components, rears are 6x9's and 2 x 12" xplod woofers in a off the shelf sealed box running off a audison mono block amp rated at 2000w. the stereo is on my b-room floor atm thats the last thing to go in.
its taken me 10 months so far and alot of pain and money and there is still about 6 weeks until its on the road as the motor is getting built along with the g-box. i spoke to a couple of different tuners around brisbane and gave them a list of mods and asked for some rough pwr figures they all said around 200 kw at the motor running 15 psi. but we will see. but when i get the tune done i will post the dyno sheets up.
if anyone could plz tell me how to post pictures i have got heaps to got up. i have just spent 20 mins trying and got the shits. so it will have to do for now.
this is my ride, its taken 10 months and is nearly done.
