My JB Track Car

I bought Barups old car from Vulpes after he started to strip is, i bought it as a project for my son and myself.
He helped me strip it, he is only 10, i proceeded to clean the car, removing all of the sound deadening throughout. I bought a weld in cage kit from Bond Roll bars, what a fun job to weld in
the whole has been stripped backed to metal and filled and primed ready for the top coat, Black of course
the steering box has been removed and replaced with a rack from a Hyundai Excel, the distance between the inner rack joints was almost the same as the starion, i have not checked the bump steer yet, it should be pretty close
the booster and masters cylinder has been replaced with dual master cylinder with bias adjustment
i sourced the coil overs from

they listed starion, they had never done one, i gave them all of the measurements and the spring rates that i wanted, they where a little slow, when they arrived, they fitted OK
the ones i ordered are not on the list any more, they where Type 2, the type 2's now have the remote reservoir
the front brakes are wilwood hats rotors and 6 spot radial mount calipers, the rears and wilwood rotors and 4 spot calipers, the hats i made
the inlet manifold i have made from billet alloy

Sticking to the sohc I see. Is that cost related or you just prefer it?
Will be interested in seeing how you feel about these coilovers compared to the d2s in your streeter

The cage look's like a snug fit!
No braces to the front towers?
Steering rack look's to easy to be true... :?
Servoassisted, no?
Is it going to be in the way for a big downpipe?
I guess the oilpan must be modified or drysump?
What turbo for this setup and what powergoals?
I'm thinking of trying a TD05HR, downmounted... but I dont have anything in the way hens the LHD... and move the servopump to the LHS.

the cage is a close fit, the main hoop and the front legs are almost touching the body, i hole sawed two holes in the floor under where i welded the plate for the hoop, this allowed me to keep it tight, i had the smallest head on my TIG welder, still very hard
this pic gives you an idea how tight it is
Steering is manual, standard sump still fits
i have a TD06SL2-20G with a T3 flange, one of the next projects is to make up an exhaust manifold, i bought all SS bends and a merge collector from Treadstone in the US. still heaps of room to get a 3 to 3 1/2 inch downpipe.

Exelent work on the cage!
What I was after when asking was if your not putting any tubing to the strut-towers from the cage?
So the sump still fits without moving the motor south?

I have seen this car in the flesh and gotta say the workmanship is outstanding. I admire the understanding and experience John has with his stuff...
but I must confess, some things go over my head. He definitely thinks outside the square with his projects and actually produces the goods!
The car turned up to be a excellent base from Darryl's backyard and should look sensational when finished in glossy black!
Judging by the performance of his registered JB, this thing should fly and steer well!

No i did not tie the front struts towers to the cage
the steering rack does not touch the sump, the only thing that goes close is the mounting bracket, the center line of the rack is basically the same as where the drag link sits

It will be a while before i try them, i like the fact that they will build them to you requirements, and there is independent compression and rebound adjustment, the D2's on have rebound adjustment.

the wheel that will be on the car
the body had been 2 pack primed waiting for paint, the other photo's had it as bare metal
i stuck the seat and gearbox for a trial fit

For those interested in getting Ceika Performance coilovers, don't they will mess you around for months and then not deliver.

yes, it took me a while to get them, probably 2 months from order to receive, they had never done them before, i had to do all of the measurements and draw diagrams for them. i did get a bit worried that i was not going to get them, but they arrived, just slow
