My new Drift/Track car project.
My new Drift/Track car project.
Ok so i've kept quiet about this as i know how much i'm going to get flamed, but i own another starion and it's not mitsubishi powered :(
I originally was one to bag this conversion out myself, so i must eat my words and explain my actions.
1. I wanted to get into track/drift events but am really scared of crashing/damaging the widey (I've even had a nightmare that i crashed it!)
2. I actually drove it, and was impressed with how neat a conversion it really is. I drove this car pretty hard around mount panorama, after jumping straight out of my old jb. I could notice straight away how much better it turned in with slightly less weight over the front wheels.
3. It's been through 2 owners on here, had the backside thrashed out of it and is still running strong.
4. Part are cheap as and common, so if i break it im not going to have to worry about finding hard to get bits.
5. Price! you cannot build, engineer, or buy any of the cars current upgrades for what i paid. It just was a no brainer compared to building another twincam setup.
So there you go, flame away i deserve it, but it's a cheap way of having a track project that i can go out and play with Greg, John and Brett and still be able to give it a real go and be competitive.
Don't worry about the widey either, i am still going ahead with all my planned mods, but it will be more a weekend toy than a dedicated track car i was originally planning. I have decided to pull apart my twincam motor and go stroker. and i want to fix a few little issues with the suspension before going any further.
So since picking the car up i have pulled the coltspeed front bar off as i don't like the look of it, or the fact it had 4 cable ties holding it on. (go Ryan) I fitted my 19's, as the Simmons on the front were down to canvas and about to explode (again go Ryan :P ) I also don't like spacers, so fiting the 19's for now killed two birds with one stone. I alo fitted some conquest tail lights cause i hate ja lights...
Future mods are fitting some d2's, putting a flex joint in the exhaust as it has broken a mount being completely solid. Fit a fibreglass jb front bar and spoiler. Fit a half cage and harness, upgrade the brakes back to the same as it was engineered with and fit the big 3.9 lsd diff the car came with.
Things that need fixing asap are: The rear pads are almost gone, The radiator has a crack across the top, fix the exhaust and a re tune the wolf as it is pretty average at the moment.
So i've crapped on about why i bought it and whats happeneing, but i've yet said what car/conversion it is.... Answer.... Well it's the old Dirtysanchez then Ixnays sr20det converted ja. It now has a disco potato, hks cams and rocker stoppers, injectors and a wolf computer fitted.
I hate saying it but this car really is brutal. Even with a 3.5 open centre diff it turns the tyres in 2nd and 3rd if you're game enough. I took it on a RSPCA charity cruise today (so i could take my dog with me otherwise i would have taken the widey) and even with me adjusting the boost controller the wrong way  and basically having to feather the throttle to not keep hitting boost cut, i made some pretty expensive skylines and commodores look silly.
Pics.... Well it's not worthy at all. It looks like ass and i think it's staying that way as i want to paint the widey first, and it's not a cheap exercise.
Let the flames begin LOL

i think a track car really shouldn't be too pretty.. a slightly rough body isn't a bad thing

Yeah i rekon hey! LOL I've been for a ride in your one when Jason owned it, and he saw this conversion at the bathurst cruise. The engine Mounts are dfferent between the two cars, and i still have a stock low mount factory manifold.SR20 in a Starion?
Why would anyone own such a thing?
It looks like it goes hard Mang, so therefore will put a smile on your dial!
Here's a pic in full lebbo spec at the RSPCA cruise. (Don't worry it's not staying like this)
I feels as fast as my old gsr with the stroker and a 20g, just lazier. If thats the case then it's a 11 sec car!
where the f was he doing 230?
