Bugger I would have bought that, I used to have one years ago (Eterna VR)
I got a Mivec Diamante before Christmas to use for the summer since I can't get my Starion out this year, same money too.
Its almost NZ new to, they get so close to 180km/h cut out in only 3rd gear and can tow and carry massive loads. Honestly they are great cars not the best lookers but great cars.

uh.. that's not a 12V DASH 4G63.. that's just the regular 8V model mate.
The DASH 3x2 E15As are all intercooled and they have a different TBI housing, looks quite square with fins, that one is more like the Starion/Cordia Type 2 setup.
Also that's an Eterna HT, would have mistakenly first registered as a Sigma when it arrived on NZ's shores. That model was never called just the 'Sigma' in Japan, they were either Galant E or Eterna E, where the E is the symbol for Sigma. The Sigma designation in Japan simply means that is is a sedan, rather than /\ (Lambda) for coupe.

dg your answers are always impress :D , when i was 15 a few years back now, a family friend had a 12v intercooled eterna and it went well, the main thing that i remember is that it had the electric adjustable suspension from inside which lowered the car and stiffened it, which was really cool

yeah its the same ECS that alot of the jap import E33A Galants and the NZ-new GTi-16V hatches had, they always started failing within 10 years/100,000kms though leading to replacing them with normal struts. It is very very rare to find an ECS system still working these days.
also don't worry Jason when I first glanced at it I too thought it was a DASH model, had to double take at the silver rocker cover to make sure it was or wasn't.

Glad we don't get them, we have enough of them over here in Australia known as the Magna. Yours is very similar to TM Magna which was the first model here from 1985. They didn't have a turbo motor, they copped a carbied 2.6 Astron motor with maybe 83kw and they were a bucket of pus.
Here's a link to a pic: http://www.kpl.com.au/Classics/Images/M ... _Magna.jpg
Those cars are the reason all future Magnas inherited a bad name, and although throughout the years the cars improved massively the stigma (not Sigma) from the first model plagued the rest.
In 2005 Mitsubishi had their last ditch attempt at building an all new large sedan in Australia, and whilst the name changed from Magna to 380 (being a 3.8L) people still thought of it as a Magna and sales were not very strong. Mitsubishi Australia then shut their factory in Adelaide nearly 2 years ago. Pity, because those cars built by them in the last 5 years were pretty good.

Impressive indeeeed!
The E33A problems with ECS is just the same over here... so its probably not climate-related... (?)
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

I think the Magna and 380's failure is contributed by the fact that the market they were trying to penetrate were dominated by Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons... what Aussie yobbo wants a FWD car? Though the 9G Galant the 380 was based on didn't do too well in the US also.enthuzed wrote:Glad we don't get them, we have enough of them over here in Australia known as the Magna. For your reference the first gen Magna was based on the 5th gen Galant platform (what that white Eterna above is), except the shell was widened 3" so they could fit the 4G54 in with ease and also increase the interior room size. In Japan cars of that class were limited to 1800mm wide otherwise they would be bumped up to the next more expensive tax bracket, whereas there were no tax limitations in Australia. The 5th gen Galant was first released in 1983 and I remember a 1984 Wheels magazine had a preview of the Magna and the Galant it was based on side by side and you could see the differences. Of course the Magna was 'Australia-fied', so out went the Sumitomo brakes and instead PBR brakes were fitted. In New Zealand the 5th gen Galant was badged as the Sigma, carrying on from where the 4th gen RWD Sigmas took off.
The 2nd gen Magna was based on the 1st gen Diamante/Sigma (not to be confused with the older Sigma) platform. There was no modifying dimensions for the Magna because the Diamante/Sigma was plenty big enough this time round, but out went the multi-link rear suspension setup and the Magnas had a solid beam axle setup instead.
Sorry just even more useless Mitsi info there haha.

That was also part of the problem, the majority of big cars sold in this country are those RWD models that are snapped up by bigger families, those wanting something for towing duties, the yobbos, and the rest went to fleet buyers who are steeped in tradition. I reckon a 380 would make a far nicer taxi though I don't think I've seen one, let alone been in one. There's a few Camry cabs getting around.dirtygalant wrote:

i think it's also much to do with mitsu's reputation..
people like the toyota brand better, even thought toyotas have gotten worse and worse. the fact that mitsu has for a long time been considered a second rate manufacturer when it comes to economy cars.. this would be one of the reasons most of the sheep would not buy or recommend one.
"why buy a 380 when you can buy a camry? hmm.. i don't need a 3.8 litre engine.. it's much too big. must consume a lot of fuel.. yeah camry's better.. plus it's a toyota.. everyone says they're good. more reliable than mitsubishis.."
i know this thought pattern.. my father is like this. most the people he knows are like this. they're all sheep and too scared to think out of the box. For these people, safety comes from more than a rating. it comes from what everyone else is doing.. and it comes from what everyone else is saying, or have been saying for years. Even if something is false, if everyone else says it for long enough, then it is believed, no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary.

That was well put thrash about people who spend all their lives in a box. I'm going to add to that, may as well put a lid on some of those boxes and put them in the ground...
There are so many conservative types, they'll die with the music in them cause they're too afraid to step out, take a bit of a risk and have a go.
Theres real people in there, but there are massive layers of conservatism. And of course, these people do just about everything conservative, and so will buy conservative cars that lack soul and charisma.
Well, those are two things our little jap sportscars do have! And I reckon most of us are not particularly conservative either. An interesting correlation...
