Just for Fun

Post by thrash »

Took my car to MRC Dyno yesterday to get some maintenance and repairs done.

a plug for MRC Dyno: They are in castle hill, and they have been fantastic - highly recommended! Must have been my lucky day - also seems mrb1 dropped by for a visit - good to meet you :beer

Anyway, this morning, i had Mark do a dyno run for fun, so I could see what kind of power I was running with..

mind you, this is a bog stock car, so nothin to brag about :P but it seems it's running on about 10psi instead of the stock 7..

Not too shabby for a stock car methinks.. considering I was expecting to see 60rwkw, or 70 at the most, this is a pleasant surprise! But now I feel I have to rethink my original target of 170ish rwkw.. no longer sure I will be happy with that, considering i feel like 99rwkw is slow :S

Not too bad. What year model? My widebody made 150hp at the wheels stock standard on std boost. Would have been great for you to see your car on there :beer

Congrats :)

Looks like your turbo is coming on a little late tho and your AFR's are all over the shop.

BUT THAT WASN'T THE POINT OF THE EXERCISE :)

Well done mate. At least now you have a good solid baseline to work from :D

nah thats exactly where a TC06 comes on, LATE! LOL

and 99rwkw is what you'd expect to see from a car rated at 125kw (flywheel) new. so they leaned it off somehow compared to the first (green line) run??

thanks guys :beer

yeah, power comes on late. but that's ok for now. it will all change in good time. we compared it to wantsom's recently tuned monster.. his larger turbo comes on boost much earlier

yeah, the green line was the initial one. Mark then just disconneted the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator, and that's the red line. with the vac hose connected, it was making 96kw, and as you can see, it was running afr of 10:1 from 4200ish rpm onwards.. with the vac hose disconnected the afr is a bit leaner, and it made the extra bit of power.. but now there is slightly more vibration at idle.. he had also adjusted the idle a bit as it was initially running uber rich at idle too - less than 13:1. This might have something to do with the vibration. I will check it out if it gets too annoying.

For now though, i'm extremely happy :) Headlight issues hve been fixed. Leaking clutch master and slave fixed. Car has new gearbox oil and lsd oil (he put in Elf BLS90), and also new brake fluid.

Now.. perhaps i should just put an intercooler on.. i have 5 of them lying around in the garage :S

Get one of MRB's GT Pumps TD05H 16G - I ran that on the DASH and will flow 200kws with great spool from 2500rpm. That turbo is a great match for the single cam with a good quality intercooler and 2.5" pipework.

A really good setup for a street cars.

I have that exact turbo on my twincam vr4... 7psi about 2800rpm, 18+psi by 3500 rpm still climbing. I have fairly aggressive cams and the like though... and two cams.

Thrash Your ramp rate is incorrect on this dyno sheet. It should read RR0.10. Also what speed did they start your power run from?

excuse my ignorance, but what is the ramp rate and what effect does it have? would the power figure be lower/more realistic with a lower ramp rate?

The power run was done in 4th gear, from 1500ish, so I would say it was 45 - 50 km/h

A while back my A183A (GSR-3) sat on 101kw, stock as with two of the exhaust valves almost completely closed. That was impressive. The only thing I know is different to the aussie car is the higher comp piston (12cc dish instead of 14-15cc).
I have no idea what it's got now since it got rebuilt, it now has about 20,000 ks on it using the VR4 pistons.
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...

checked my fuel usage today.. about 10.5 Liters per 100 kms

That simple fuel pressure regulator mod might be saving me 2 litres of fuel per 100kms.. the car was sitting at 12.5 before, on occasion dropping to 12..

latest update.. car is no longer standard.. has been modified for a slight power increase. I feel like it still has more potential, especially in the midrange, but this will do for the time being.
