His is an Evo4 with Evo6 longblock, with bolt ons such as Evo8 ECU, 560cc injectors, Evo 9 turbo, 3" exhaust, stock intercooler etc so 240kw at all four wheels on less than 20psi is fairly impressive - but power figures mean nothing if the torque curve is all up the shit like yours is - he may be making 20kw less than you but he may be getting that power from 4000rpm onwards right through to 7000rpm rather than 6000rpm and topping out at 7000rpm.

Have you considered looking for 2nd hand good condition cams on trademe etc?

Yes your right about my torque curve!

Ive been looking for used cams on trade me for a while. But 264s never seem to come up.
Will keep looking tho

It just pisses me off that its not where it should be with the parts that are in it. Its far more power than you should ever need on the street, but I want to do a little circuit and drag stuff with it.


Never heard of DKS cams Robert. But the Kelford stuff made here is getting a very good rep world wide

Just take your current cams into Peter Kennard at kelford to get a regrind, the guy is a genius
87 GSR-V, Factory DASH, Rebuilt bottom end with arp rod bolts and balance shafts removed, head reconed with 3 angle valve grind, TD05 housing machined out to take Garrett T4 internals, rebuilt and cryoed gearbox

US$300 a pair or so. They're HKS copies, on OEM sticks. All the info I've found on them seems to be good. Whenever I get to a twin cam conversion I'll probably go this route, but for now... one cam to rule them all!!

Thanks Robert. But with the exchange rate and the price of shipping I dont think it would be much cheaper.

Just a thought. But could the power drop off be caused by week valve springs??

Right!!

Finally got it sorted.
Turns out the guy that built my engine used the tin crank timing marker thing from a starion. And just filed a new timing marker in it.
However, turns out he filed the new notch in the wrong place. It was 3/4 of a tooth out!
Ive since replaced the tin timing marker thing with one off a twin cam engine and reset the timing.
What a transformation! Its so much more responsive and boosts up lots quicker. Its a totaly different car to drive now :)

Its booked in on the 30th of this month for another dyno tune. Ill post the new figures and dyno sheets shortly after :)

Well a disappointing result.
Its better but still not close to what it should be.

It only made 355hp atw's. Ill put the dyno sheets up tomorrow.



The boost does come on quicker but not as quick as it should. And the torque still drops off way to early.

Bit gutted....
