Been accumulating a few bits and pieces and doing a bit of stuff. Have made the big decision to keep it bog standard - factory spec. Changed oil, filter, plugs, air filter (to K&N - it needs to breathe even if it is to stay factory!). Checked all electrics etc... the power aerial even goes up when you turn the original radio on and all the speakers work. When it was laid up I guess it was only 5 or 6 years old.
I have HT leads (standard 7mm), thermostat, radiator cap, dizzy cap, rotor arm, timing belt, alternator belt ready to go on but am waiting on a few more bits - water pump etc....
Managed to get hold of this which has been in a warehouse for nigh on fourteen years just forgotten about:
Image
The exhaust on mine has a couple of holes in the rear two sections from sitting for so long. Decided to keep bog standard here too despite performance impairing tiny pipes! Still has the stickers on it which have model number etc....
Have taken wheels off - going to refurbish by hand :o because they are pretty rancid. (and out come the wolves). The lacquer has half peeled off and there is white corrosion underneath. Will take a good while.
Example of shitty wheel partially cleaned:

They are worse than they look in the photo.
More updates to come.
Do I need to change oil pump while I am doing timing belt and water pump as well?

Cheers

Haha I'm not sure. Still over in Ireland - I'll ask my parents next time I'm talking to them. I think they're starting to get sick of all the parts that keep turning up! rofl

And 2 boxes of beer in the boot, mate you are set!

Has this one been overserviced, you said that it had services up to 40,000 miles yet it's only done 30,000 odd?
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...
How?

^^Yeah it's stamped in the book up to 40k miles. I guess it was the old "service every 5000km or 6 months etc...". I have all the MOT records to make sure it wasn't wound back etc.. At this stage I have to replace all the serviceable items I reckon because I have absolutely NO idea what 14 years of inactivity will have done to them.
As an aside - I'm having trouble getting rid of my other widey over here (orders from the boss!! apparently taking up three carparks in our apartment blocks is semi-taking the piss!) for a really low price! Just no market over here for them. Here's the ad:

Everyone loves it at the classic car shows (read - no one knows what it is) but it's impossible to shift.

Mate ur gonna have a great time doing the wheels, its hours and hours of work but imho so well worth it. Use some spray on stripper to get rid of the rest of the clear coat thats peeling, then its just alot of wetsanding from about 400 grit to 2000 grit, depending on how bad they are. After that use Mothers alloy polish and they come up sweet and shiny :D

Wee bit of an update. Car has been fixed and they did a great job - unfortunately no pictures because it is currently sitting in a container with all our household stuff on it's way back to NZ! We'll see how well I secured it when it arrives.
Will take pics in a few weeks when it finally arrives in NZ. :beer
