nah u know what i meant, 4 out of the 5 mates i have who have owned microtechs have had to get rid of them and fit a different ecu or sold the car they were in because of issues with the ECU, one of them is a prominent rotary runner (900rwhp 13BT) who switched to motec, and he was partially sponsored by microtech!!!!
the only guy i know without issues is Nick (EvoJB) with one in his starion with evo 3 motor..
Haltech also do the sprint 500 ecu which is $1000 with a loom, as basic as a microtech but a shitload better quality.
ps i'm pretty sure they dont even make LT-8's any more.. LTX-8 yes..

so majority of people believe heading in the direction of a wolf or ems ecu is the way to go over the microtech? 800 - 1500 is my price range for one i suppose but still not wanting to go over the top as the car aint going to be a 500+hp car i dont think lol.
anyway onto the first thing, i know to pass roady my car will have to turn on and off first go when required. so i'm thinking the starter motor is what is on its way out, in saying that the battery must need replacing as soon as a jump pack is put on it only takes 3 turns to start her up. so will test battery at work to check condition, harty claimed it was a fuel issue.. but the car once started doesnt miss a beat, and upon starter motor trying to engage you can hear the "whine" noise of the starter motor freespinning.. giving me the assumption its not working correctly, could this be my issue? i will take the starter motor of within the next few days to have a look at it.. where is the starter motor located on these?
also i would like some insight into the turbo on my starion.. e.g redzone or people who have looked at it have any idea what it is? td06 or what? what do starions come stock with? (their name e.g tdo5 or?)
righto, latest progress on the stazz is we tested the battery for voltage and is at 12.4 volts fine.. once car is turned on the volts go up 13 and beyond... so alternator and battery seem to be fine. Car turns on and off with one turn now but every so often has a hickup with the starter motor and will freespin like mentioned earlier.. but once turned to off.. then back to on and it will start instantly usually.. so have determined starter motor is on its way out but hopefully will work so i can go get my rwc asap and rego! car has a slight rough idle.. nothing really major.. just a few hickups like you see on falcons when their coilpacks are buggered.. so will observe spark plugs and replace.. and drop current fuel, put some 98 octane in and new fuel filter and hopefully will run good. anyone experienced a slight rough idle on their stazz before and found the issue to be fuel or spark?
Might not be your starter motor. There's a common issue with the starters.
Put in a relay to the starter...
Get yourself a standard relay with these numbers on the wiring diagram - 30, 85, 86 & 87.
You may have one even lying in your garage somewhere.
Here's what I had scribbled on a bit of paper:
Positive batt goes to clip on starter motor (trigger wire)
Pin 30 12v from battery
Pin 85 Earth (put a connector on the wire and use an existing screw to fix it to the body somewhere)
Pin 86 off the starter motor
Pin 87 New wire to the starter
That might help.
Reduce fuel costs by 15-20% & cut emissions by 1/3rd...
Increase engine performance & prolong engine life...
How?

so you reckon the relay could be stuffed? and no diagram to see to make things easier to find?
that magna starter motor just bolts straight up does it? what year model are these magna's to get the starter motor of?
but yes out've 10 turns.. 2 turns on average will just free spin and not engage the flywheel.. will have to take off and see if i can get the solenoid checked out.

If the solenoid wasnt working or not getting enough power then the starter wouldn't be making a whirring noise. It sounds to me like the over running clutch on the starter pinion is stuffed.
If it's making a grinding more than a whirring i'd say ring gear stripped.

tested battery on car.. it was half its fault as it now starts first go.. but it does have the odd moment where it just free spins.. which redzone has mentioned about the cog.. so will look into one soon from a magna.. and hope it turns out good.
