new turbo pics- large pics

Post by ukstariont3 »

hi all, after getting the car stolen etc etc, finally got the engine run in, only to find the turbo i fitted was too large, thus not getting boost till 5000 revs, and that was only 5-7 psi :roll:

so i searched around, and managed to find a garrett t34 escort cosworth group A rally car turbo.
it has 360 thrust bearing, cut back ex wheel, maram anti lag shaft, custom .50 ex housing, doubled up inlet wheel, .42A/R in. -31 actuator.

spins up to 14 psi by 4200, starts at 3200.
well impressed :D
fitting my chipped fuel comp tonite, so no more boost cut :twisted: , and goin to set up my gizzmo ibc(boost controller).

heres a few pics while we were putting it on the staz manifold;

Are you sure that the Wastegate Arm on the Garrett T4 wasn't tensioned enough ? Eg, pull the Wastegate Arm off the Flapper arm and line it up next to each other but with the flapper arm 100% closed, if they line up perfectly, ok........but if its 1-2mm off such that the wastegate flap was open a little bit, then that was what has caused the lag, not the Turbo itself.

Really the Watsgate arm should be tensioned about 2mm off in the closed direction so that its 100% sealed.

You could off also had a boost leak on your intercooler piping...........

Anyhow, I'm 100% certain you really had something wrong elsewhere as that Turbo really wasn't that big, eg > it being a T3 Hotside/ Exhaust Housing

Plus, I'm certain the Turbo you got now is going to be down a fair bit on power compared to the bigger one :(
Computer games don't affect kids I mean if PacMan affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music :D

no, def the turbo too big. wastegate was 100% sealed.
checked all for leaks etc- all ok.
the ex haust housing apears to have been machined bigger than a .63.
i am 100 % sure the turbo was too large.
the new t34 is good for 350 bhp.
