Griphin's JA Starion

Post by Griphin »

Here's a few snaps I just took of my 83 JA Starion.
I washed it 3 days ago, and its already covered with sand dust and cobwebs!

the first was taken today, the second about a month ago just after I'd washed it.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... 22a260.jpg

Going to need to replace the airdam soon as the edge through the centre is beginning to crack through.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1157.jpg

Yay Wavey Bumper
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1159.jpg

Rust, present from 3 years ago when I bought her.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1158.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1161.jpg

Ugly bumpy weld/putty marks where previous owner attempted to make repairs.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1160.jpg
Also notice the same weld spots on the front of the hood.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1162.jpg
And both the hood and roof need new clear and paint.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1163.jpg

I have no idea how this occured, but it looks like someone took to it with a teeny weeny blowtorch
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1164.jpg

Now for the interior;

Badly cracked original leather seats
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1165.jpg

The view I get through the open drivers side window
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1166.jpg

Ugly standard (I think) Stereo/tapedeck, eventually to be replaced with custom panel of gauges and switches. Notice the (I can only assume aftermarket) Turbotimer. Essential for keeping your precious turbo uncoked.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1167.jpg

What the hell is that orange button for? It doesnt appear to do anything when pushed and I cant be bothered opening up the panel behind to see where the wires lead.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1168.jpg

And finally my glovebox. Notice 2 bottle of Lead Replacement Additive (Only Optimax for my baby) and First Aid Kit (A must have for any glovebox)
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c113/ ... G_1169.jpg

And that my new friends is my car. She isnt the most beautiful Starion out there, and she wasnt looked very well after by her last owner, but all damage shown was already there.

hey mate just letting u know that u dont need lead replacement fuel additives in a starion, as they run hardened valve seats from the factory, they are designed 2 be able 2 run unleaded, so u needent waste ur money!

Flav, you're fallible after all

He's talking about the square orange button underneath the dash dimmer!

HAHAHA, yes, I noticed that that knob was the dashlight dimmer, but what it the square button for? It doesnt look after market since the dash panel seems to be moulded to have something there, but the button never lights up and pressing it never seem to do anything.

Did the JA come with a standard Turbo Timer that was only set for a short time and thats the 'kill' override? Is my car fitted with a special super duper limited edition ultra secret highly confidential Faster-Than-Light drive that can only be activated at 88mph?

Maybe I should have left that Flux Capacitor hooked up.

In Oz-delivered Starions, this small panel was blank. Dunno about Jap or other Starions - maybe someone in NZ can comment?

Ok, where do I start!?

Griphin, your car is in the same shape as most peoples! Seems straight! :beer Take a look around the forum, especially in the Body section for ideas on how to change your interior! I'm pretty happy with my centre console mods, you can see that in "Show & Go"! The orange light.. I wasn't aware of the alarm thing, so thanks Flav! I have a red light switch there that the previous owner installed to turn my fans on in the engine bay! :? Rust is in the usual spots, but quite bad and only going to get worse! Fix her now or your lining her up for the bin! Seats are easily retrimmed, so I wouldn't fret! The ugly bumpy weld marks you're referring to are actually surface rust under the paint! Yet another reason why you should address this ASAP! Even just cut it back to bare metal and apply some rust primer will at least stop it spreading! And believe me, it spreads quickly!!! As stated above, Valve fluid isn't needed! All in all, car looks good! You seem to have the enthusiasm needed to get her looking sweet! You'll need it (Bloody Starions)! As for cobwebs... the little bastards are everywhere! I got my last one a couple of weeks ago hiding behind my rear light! Hard to get them all! Also you can post pics directly by using the link at the top of every page, much easier then linking them from elsewhere! :beer

Flav, get hooked up with Exetel! Their broadband deals shit all over anyone else! :beer

The factory option for that button was the driving lights. Not an option for JA's , but standard on JB's & JD's.

from that photo off the orange light it looks like it's on an angle.

Fix that up!
My JA has perfect motor - FMIC - forgies - high flow head but...rusted front guards and keyed on every panel. Time to get serious or time to take it to the tip.
