My New Stazza :)

Post by SpidersWeb »

I know I linked in the Centre Console Slots thread, but I couldn't help myself, had to make a Show and Go, purely because I'm excited and my girlfriend can't tell me about the car until she gets home with it, and thats going to be another hour or so yet.

Anyway the pics from trademe:

Its a '83 GSR-II, so its got electrics and power steering but no air conditioning etc.
Only 136,000km
Genuine family car (check that out on a VIR, and its true)
Comes with original Starion manual book :D
WOF and reg
Only problems are some tiny rust spots on the door cills (as all Starions have at some stage), front tyres need replacing and it needs a wheel alignment.Only cost me $750, and after repairs I still expect it to be a total cost of much less than $1500.

I did get one message from my girlfriend as she was driving which said 'your other baby is going fine too :) ' - so that means good things indeed :) Car is being stored at my gf's house in Hamilton, I live 650km south, so I wont actually get to see the car until she drives it down on labour weekend (3 weeks).

In that time I need to get rid of my parts car, so anyone in Wellington who wants a free intercooled Starion chassis, I'll pay YOU to take it! haha

So Why?
Well I was having trouble making plans for the GSR-X. (and jrod82 knows where I'm going with this I'm sure). Basically you want to improve the car, but at the same time you dont want to change it, knowing they're getting rarer, it feels like you're destroying history by modifying.

Also I really wanted to have a genuine Starion, with all the original Starion gizmo's. So what we have here, is just that. A 100% original Starion, that I can install my VELNAS, digital dashboard, that new centre console I got last week and so on. Its got low kms, so it'll make a reliable runabout as well.

The black dashboard is another bonus :)
99% of these are red, the grey/black is rare and different. So I'm happy about that too :)

haha
Thanks for the offer, its just the roof lining and wheels that need to come off. Its got no engine, no gearbox, no doors, no dash, no centre console. So its only screwdriver type stuff to go. Definately a lot of smiley's in that post :) but I was, and still am, extremely happy. This car may not be a 12 second beast, but I still feel like I'm 7 years old again, christmas is in a week, and I'm getting my own games arcade.

As for the new toy, I am hearing good things from my lady up north. Despite the near bald front tyres, and slight wheel alignment problem, she still really enjoyed driving it.

Also the GSR-X is #329, this one is #382, so they're pretty close in production dates.

She said the interior is 100% perfect, she can't find a single flaw anywhere. I even notice that the front door trims have not been touched for speakers. It came with a Warehouse style Reactor CD player, I was going to give it away, but when I found out the model I decided to just bin it. Also has the original floor mats. I asked 'Do they have Starion written on them??' she said 'Yep'.

Exterior is perfect except for the rust in the cills which I will be getting fixed, and a small mark on the front bumper.

Engine is an utter mess (visually), she said it looks like somebody drove it with the oil cap off as its covered in black gook everywhere. Engine starts fine, drives fine, no smoke, so thats good. Water is rusty brown, so its time for a flush. As I said to her, thats better than frothy white. She did also say 'It looks like it would go off the clock easy'.

Auto works fine, no drama there.

It (like my X) came with all the documentation, WOF results, mechanic bills etc. It has also been serviced regularly. The manual it came with isnt the original Starion manual though, but alas its that white book you see on eBay, tech manual for all Starions 1982 to 1989 2.0 and 2.6. I was going to buy that from the UK, so that was still an added bonus.

Apparently the only reason its for sale, was becuase the owner was having radiology treatment and couldn't drive it anymore, and apparently he REALLY did not want to give the car up hehe sounds like a good old bloke to me.

Anyway, very happy with purchase, only thing I am worried about is the cam belt, I forgot to ask if that had been changed.

To do list:
-> 2 x new front tyres fitted and balanced
-> wheel alignment
-> rust removal and paint cleanup
-> Warrant of Fitness test

Also for those that don't know, I live with my parents, board is $50 a week, which leaves me with silly amounts of money for the Starions. The downside is I'm only meant to have one of them, which is why the white one is staying with my girl for a while. Once the parts car is gone, I'll sneak it in though, but it needs to look shiny and new, so it'll be getting fixed up with the help of my money and her family driving it around. So a big thank you to her and her family for helping the cause :D

GSR-X goes for its new paintjob tomorrow too by the way :)

Soooo....

My girlfriend's sister buys a new truck/ute, but its manual, and she hasn't had time to learn manual properly, and needed a car that was auto for a week, so they gave her my Starion

She is a diesel mechanic by trade, but 18 years old and its probably the quickest car she's driven, and she lives in South Auckland, makes me a little nervous

So fingers crossed anyway, I doubt she will damage it, I'm more worried about it sitting in South Auckland. Hopefully it'll be fine. Its un-insured, and finding a car in this condition for that price range is rare, so I can't help but feel a little concerned.

And I still don't have my GSR-X back :glare: :glare: :glare: :glare: mechanic is like 'Thursday' then 'Friday' then Saturday and now its 'Monday'. Bill was $1570 for anyone who was curious. This is in addition to the $1800 bill.

Should be all good man, girls aren't as reckless as guys and it's a dirty power sucking 80's mitsubishi auto. Just make sure she doesn't leave it on the street in south auckland.
Watch your speed - It's virtually impossible to pick it out of the carpet if it gets blown off the table.

Thats what I'm worried about :(

EDIT: beh no worries about that, quote from text message:
"During the day its behind 12 foot high high gates and at night its down a row parked right outside the garage in a fancy part of Auckland, it has more of a chance getting stolen here to be honest"

hehe so no worries now

I'll go back to bitching about how my GSR-X isn't ready yet :D

haha neither am I, it will be a suprise when it arrives here. It's been great too, my girlfriend used it for a week then her sister borrowed it for two weeks up an Auckland. Since I got it, its done about 700km and not missed a beat. I'm stoked with it.

Sent it off for a WOF, and the VTNZ guys worked really really hard to fail it, they really pulled the cat out of the bag here:

- there is a 5cm rip behind the drivers seat, a little foam has come away, and you can just see a small piece of metal inside
- there is an unoticable pinhole in the exhaust

As for the black GSR-X, got it back, and its fantastic :D really love driving it now! Its not fast, yet, but so smooth, great car, much better as a manual.

And I only just worked out who you are! You must take some pics of your beats for us! I hear good things :)

And unfortunately I couldn't keep the white one, due to a certain red one that appeared on the market.
