started stripping/messing about

Post by ukstariont3 »

hi all,
finaly got started on the rally staz.
removed the wings, bumper, front panel, splitter, bonnet, engine, oil cooler, intercooler, dash board and the mass mess that was loosely called a wiring loom.
i have found that there is a fair bit of welding needed( joys of living in the sunny UK!!!- rust loves it!!!).
mainly to the bulkhead along the seam line. the majority seems to be on the area where the a- pillars come down to meet the panels under the dash board and the gutter/water ways on the inner wings.
also found some rot in both foot wells , tho not too bad.
both sills need work also, but only on the outers.

heres a few pics to make you squirm;;
drivers side wiper panel/inner wing

drivers side(left hand drive) gutter rail on inner wing

started removing paint and rubbing down to see the true extend of damage

rot in the wiper panel/bulkhead
Image

bulkhead seam is rotten
Image

hole in drivers side sill :(
Image

drivers side foot well- looks worse than it is- mainly surface rust where water got has under the paint
Image

dash out etc
Image

drivers side front panel?? has a bend to it- previus owner had an off at a trackday. should pull/bash out ok
Image

empty engine bay :)
Image

looking a bit sorry for its self :(
Image

progress on the car is a bit stop and start at the mo, due to work commitments etc, but i will get there in the end.
once i have the welding done, things will start moving on quite quick(hopefully).

i will update as and when.

can you take some pics of the reinforced control arms? I'm very interested to see what the suspension looks like.

That's some nasty rust .

All the same places as my widey :x

How are the rear wheel arches? they always tend to rust.

I hate that they put salt on the roads in winter
