quick question regarding wheels

hey everyone long time no see. yes i have still got the starion, and more typically yes i have been spending thousands of dollars keeping it on the road. and yes it still has electrical problems.
all that aside..
i was wondering how wide a wheel i can fit to my starion without using spacers. the car is an 86, 5 stud. i understand that the offset is around about +18. can i fit 7.5"? 8"? probably more room on the back i guess. any help would be rad. cheers

Not while keeping that offset.
Mine are 16x7 +20 and about as close on the front as you'd want to run. So if you add 25mm to the width, take it off the offset to space the wheel out (I think that's how it works
)
Rear has a bit more space before you hit the struts so you have a little more leeway.

I have 5 stud as well and run 7.5" on the front with 0 offset and went to 215-17's and fit perfect and 7.5" on the back with 0 offset and fit perfect to with 235's. Also had 9" widebody wheels on the back fine and 8" rear widebody wheels on the front fine as well. Only thing is you need to get the right tyre sizes for wheels that big.

Depending upon vehicle height, tyre size, and with the correct offset, up to 8.5 or 9" wide can be fitted to the front and 10.5-11" at the rear.
I would reccommend 8" for front and 9" or 10" for the rear.
From what I recall, the front wheel backspacing is 140mm and rear wheel backspacing is 170mm. Offset could be anywhere from 0 to +20 should work, but best to double check measurements on your car.

To maintain the same backspcing, you need to minus HALF the extra wheel width, so going one inch wider wheels you would need to minus 12.7mm (or 13mm) to the offset.
EG: going from a 6" +18 wheel to a 7" wheel, you need to get an offset of +5 to maintain the same inner clearance. However, the outer clearance will reduce by 25mm.
Like my previous post, I would work off the actual backspacing to see what offset is the correct one.
I have fitted 8"+25 at the front, and 9"+35 to the rears and they both had plenty of clearance to the guards, ie I could have gone wider with lower offset.

With the 7.5" on the front and 0 offset and 215-17's it's only mm's from touching the front strut, the top hat and had to roll the front guards...
Think that they are 45 profile tyres so not that big, but maybe a 40 or even 35 profile tyre to go wider?

A 7.5" wheel with 0 offset will have the same clearance as the stock wheels. It shoud be nowhere near the struts. Unless the high profile tyre is close to the spring mount. But 215-17-45 have the same diamter as the stock tyres...
I would suggest that you get under the car and measure the backspacing - the distance from the hub surface to the strut.

if u want 7.5's on the front, go for no higher than 14mm offset. wheels that size, 5 stud and offset come up regularly on aus based japanese s/h wheel websites, not sure whats available over there though

Also any wheels from a pre au falcon will fit perfectly, thats what mine are from.

Sorry, yes, you take away 13mm to each side, so half the offset. Oops.
